Thank you for your question. Many students have similar question. You can start to think about this any time but better to have a decision before entering the college.
Below are suggestions:
1. Think about what you have interest, eg your hobbies, your favourite subjects, etc and identify the related careers
Eg if you are interested in Maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc
If you are interested in Music, would you like to be a musician, singer, music producer, music teacher, music composer, etc
2. Find out more on these subjects and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school
career counsellor, your parents, etc
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Find out the entry criteria of relevant subjects in the college
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Becky’s Answer

As soon as possible. Your passions and skills will change over time. If you start at an early age exploring those passions and interests you give yourself a broad range of experiences to build your base of knowledge as well as hone your career path directions. The more exposure to different passions and interests the more opportunities you open yourself up to and the more satisfied you can be in knowing you didn't dismiss or possibly miss something you would love to do.

Charlie’s Answer

It's never too early to start thinking about your career and planning for the future. Generally, it's a good idea to start exploring different career options during your high school years to give yourself a head start in figuring out what you might be interested in, so you can make informed decisions about your education and future opportunities.

I'd suggest starting with a self-assessment to reflect on your interests, values, and skills. Think about the subjects and activities you enjoy the most, the topics you find most intriguing, and your natural strengths. You should also consider taking an online career aptitude test that can help assess which career paths align with your interests and skillsets.

Research the career options that align with your interests and skills to identify intriguing opportunities. Online resources, career websites, job shadowing, internships, and informational interviews with professionals in different fields can all provide valuable information. Engage in activities, clubs, or volunteer work related to the fields that interest you. This will give you additional exposure, practical experience, and a real-world preview within specific industries.

Talk to career counselors, teachers, mentors, or family members who can provide guidance and support in your career exploration. They can offer advice, share their experiences, and help you make sense of your interests and options. Remember, choosing a career is a process that takes time and exploration. By starting early and engaging in thoughtful exploration, you can make more informed decisions about your future career. Good luck!

Charlie recommends the following next steps:

Perform a self-assessment to reflect on your interests, values, and skills
Complete an online career aptitude test
Conduct an informal interview with a professional to learn more about their career path

Travis’s Answer

I believe it's best to start exploring your interests at a young age, around 7 or 8 years old. This gives you a sense of direction for your future. Although our paths may change over time, having a direction is valuable. As we experience life, we develop talents, skills, and knowledge that help us understand which career path might be right for us.

Moreover, guidance counselors, principals, and teachers can provide valuable support in guiding you towards your ideal career path. These mentors may even recommend a particular path based on your unique skills and talents. Remember, it's perfectly fine to consider multiple options and gradually narrow them down to the path that best suits you.

Angel’s Answer

You can thinking about your career options and explore as soon as you’d like! As you progress through life your career priorities will also change, which is okay. It’s also perfectly reasonable to not know exactly what you want to do right now, what’s more realistic is starting to reflect what excites you, the type of work that you enjoy, and what you would like prioritize at that time of your life. For example, consider thinking about what kind of work excites you/you enjoy: do you like working with people, or animals, indoors/out, with a certain industry like Government or financial services? As far as what you prioritize, perhaps when you start out in your career you intend to focus on maximizing income, and in a few years it may shift toward more work life balance and integration. Once you have some of those preferences thought out, you can explore various career fields through online search/forums, and/or identify professionals in the field you’re interested in and asking to talk to them so that you can ask them your questions.
