Helping people may not preclude careers outside social worker or Healthcare careers. You may want to take an aptitude evaluation and find your underlying desires, weaknesses and strengths . If you like science and math consider being a biochemist, engineer or metallurgy. If inclined to help financially, then perhaps financial adviser, an accountant or low income housing developer. If you are hands on, then consider agriculture, hoticulture or animal science. These wide range options are only suggestion and obviously not all inclusive.

Find yourself first and be what gives you that warm feeling, pursuit and contentment. Like who you are, set your standards and goals; and let life facilitate a blossoming career.

Best of life choices.

A. Michelle’s Answer

The great news is that there are many careers that involve helping people, from education to health care to public safety. At this stage, you should consider your strengths and interests and identify careers that could be a good fit. Learn as much as possible about those careers by doing online research, and talking to and, if possible, shadowing people working in the career. Find out how they prepared for the career, the most rewarding parts of their job and the most challenging. If your school offers career days, don’t miss them!

Dino’s Answer

Hello Mariam, thank you so much for getting in touch with us. I appreciate your question and can tell that you have a big heart for helping others. When deciding on a career in a helping profession, it's important to focus on an area that you're truly passionate about. There are various fields to consider, such as Medicine, Nursing, and other related areas. Additionally, Education and Psychology are also worth exploring.

To begin your career journey, create a list of different fields that interest you. Then, rank them from 1-10, depending on how many options you can think of. Narrow it down to your top 3 choices and start researching each program in-depth, so you can make an informed decision.

Career exploration is a crucial process that involves considering your unique talents, including your interests, likes and dislikes, skills, abilities, intellect, aptitude, and most importantly, your personality traits. Always keep in mind to choose a career that brings you happiness and fulfillment.

Dino recommends the following next steps:

Visit your counselor in your school and ask some assistance in your career exploration.
Go to your library and search for occupational handbook.
Ask around in your community and do some interview about your chosen program.
Research also the viability of your chosen career.

Rosa’s Answer

I suggest you explore volunteering opportunities in your local community that involve helping people. This could include nursing homes, hospitals, doctor's offices, churches, restaurants, or sports therapy centers. Check with your school to see if they have a list of community service locations where you might be able to volunteer. This will give you a better idea of the available options, allowing you to talk to people and learn about the requirements for each career.

Since helping people is a broad field, try to identify the top five areas that interest you the most. Keep in mind that every choice has its pros and cons. For example, working in a nursing home might involve lifting patients, bathing them, or dealing with memory loss and suffering. In a doctor's office, you may encounter a lot of blood. To narrow down your top five options, make a list of the positive aspects you like, as well as the negative aspects. This will help you make a more informed decision about the best path for you.
