Hey Summer,

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time right now. Always remember that there are people who care about you and want to support you. Even though I may not know the specifics of your situation, I can assure you that you shouldn't have to face it alone. Building a strong community is essential for everyone. One of the key elements to long-lasting happiness is having solid social connections.

You can start by taking small steps. Consider joining an activity or extracurricular group that catches your interest. When I was a student, participating in my school's volunteer programs made a huge difference in my life. I got to meet new people and felt like I was contributing positively to the world. Alternatively, you could arrange a fun outing with a friend. Research has shown that having something enjoyable to anticipate can lift your spirits and reduce stress.

While these suggestions might not resolve all your issues right away, they'll certainly help make life more enjoyable.

Wishing you the best, Summer! Just know that we're all cheering you on!

A valuable piece of advice I've been given during difficult times is to treat yourself as you would a friend - consider what comforting or encouraging words you would offer to a friend who is unwell or having a rough day.

Show compassion to yourself, as life is full of highs and lows, but remember that you don't have to face these challenges by yourself. Reach out to a loved one, a friend, a coach, or a guidance counselor and discuss your feelings with them. Seek their help or simply ask them to lend an ear. Sharing your thoughts and concerns with someone else often lightens the load on your mind, making you feel better.

Remember to take good care of yourself!

Kimberly’s Answer

Life is not easy. So many things we experience growing up impacts our life significantly. Some are easy to navigate while others may require a different outlook from an outside source. It is very easy to become critical as you listen to what transpires in our society today or have a personal experience or tragedy in your life. There are many people that feel this way every day. Try to focus on all the positives you have in your life. Don't let anyone tell you that you cannot do something. I was always told you can do anything you set your mind to accomplish. It may not be an easy road, but trying to always focus on what makes you feel good and find that purpose in your life will help you find your happiness. Don't use words like "I can't", rather focus on words such as "I can" do anything. If you need help, do not hesitate to reach out to someone. Have faith in yourself and do what it takes to achieve your goals. Stay committed and focused so you can see the big picture. Always do something nice for yourself and do the best you can. Putting out a positive attitude with that ray of sunshine will come back to you in the same way.

Hi Summer - just wanted to share my well wishes, and I'm very sorry to hear you're having a difficult time right now. There are the things you are "supposed" to do to feel better and keep up mental/physical health: eat well, sleep enough, exercise regularly, spend time doing things that bring you joy and with people you care about, etc. But you may already be doing those things, and sometimes it's just not enough - and that's okay. And it's okay to ask for help. Even if you don't know what kind of help you really need. If this is where you're at, I encourage you to take some steps - it can even start with a conversation with your primary care provider/a campus physician who can help point you in the right direction depending on your situation. I hope things start feeling a little better and a little easier soon - please take care!

A crucial step to finding joy in life that people often overlook is paying attention to your mental well-being and embracing who you are! It's super important to set aside time for yourself to unwind, whether that means sitting back to watch TV or hanging out with loved ones! While I'm not sure what has you feeling down, chatting with a trusted family member, friend, or even a professional can be helpful! Remember to focus on yourself, as it can be truly rewarding and hopefully guide you towards a happier life!

Nika’s Answer

Hi Summer,

I hope you are feeling better today! Life can get hard, there is no doubt about that. Please know that your feelings are valid, but they don't have to be forever. One of the best things I have learned in my adulthood thus far is to enjoy the little things. I would always think this sounded a bit cheesy, but it really is true! As we grow older, we tend to sometimes lose touch with the little things we always use to enjoy.

As a child, I would always love to cook and bake. I would even spend my summers taking cooking classes just because I enjoyed it so much. As I entered high school and the beginning of college, I lost touch with that hobby. It wasn't until the COVID-19 pandemic that I started to get back into the kitchen. Since 2020 now, I have an even greater love for cooking and the sense of calm it brings me and the joy it brings those around.

While cooking may not be your thing, find your thing! It can really be anything that makes you feel full of life and joy. Whether that is painting, taking a bike ride, swimming, pottery, etc., the options are endless. Try new things and you may even find something you never thought you would love. At times when you feel down, it is important to find your spark again. I wish you the best and just know it will get better!

Gyu Hyun "Q"’s Answer

Hey Summer,
I'm really sorry to hear that you're going through a tough time. I might not be able to fully grasp the extent or nature of your struggles, but I imagine they could involve friends, family, finances, or your career. I hope you find the strength and support you need to overcome these challenges.

Unfortunately, difficulties are a part of life for all of us. What's important is that you stay strong and never give up. Problems can seem much worse if you get too emotional about them. Instead, try to step back from the situation and look at it objectively. Ask yourself if these challenges will help you grow, if they can be avoided, which ones are most important to tackle first, and if there's someone around who can understand your situation and offer advice. It's tough to deal with life's problems, especially when they all seem to come at once, but if they're things that will help you grow and can't be avoided, be strategic and find someone who can assist you.

Once again, I wish you all the best in your life!
