Asking the question is the first step you've already taken, but the trick is that while asking others may help point you in the right direction or provide you with more clarity, the best course of action is to ask yourself the question. What would you like? What do you want to achieve in 1, 2, 5, or 10 years? What do you feel strongly about? What mistakes have you made that you have since learned from? What matters most to you? I believe that once you can respond to questions of this nature, you will be well on your way. However, I can offer the following general advice:
1. Never hide who you are - always be unapologetically your authentic self
2. Don't be afraid to fail
3. Shift your focus from negative to positive. Don't get yourself bogged down on negativity like wishing you had more, or wishing you had this or wishing you had that. Instead, be grateful for what you do have because i can assure you there are people out there who have significantly less than you do.
4. Listen carefully
5. Allow change to be your friend, not your enemy.

Hi Michaela!
The fact that you're even asking this question is a great start! It shows that you care about your future and want to experience success in your life.
I encourage you to define what success looks like for you. It may seem like an obvious answer but we each define success differently. That will be a helpful first step in understanding how to set goals around achieving your definition of success.
From there, reflect on what you are passionate about, what you enjoy doing and what gives you energy. The answers to those questions will help inform what specifically you may want to pursue in terms of a career. It's not unusual for those who care about us to share their hopes and dreams for us but it's most important that you are clear what you want to do and make your own path. Ensuring you are following your intuition about what is right for you will help set you up for a fulfilling career. It will enable you to be the best version of yourself.

What a great question! Along with studying and getting good grades, take opportunities to absorb information. For example, you can talk with teachers who teach a subject you find interesting. Ask them about their career path and other careers in that field. You could also ask family members, neighbors, and friends' parents about their jobs and experiences in school.
If you're planning to go to college, know that many colleges like to see a well-rounded student. In other words, many colleges want to see that you've been involved in clubs, groups, sports, volunteer activities, etc., on top of getting good grades. If there's a particular school you want to get into, do some research to see what they're looking for in college applicants.
College websites also provide a lot of helpful information about each department. If there's a certain field you may be interested in, you can explore that department's webpage and even get in contact with department faculty. You could ask them questions about the programs/degrees offered, potential jobs in the field, or if there are any groups or events that could be sources of information for you.
You can also search for jobs on Indeed.com or other sites just to get an idea about jobs, requirements, salaries, responsibilities, etc. You can go to career fairs to learn more about companies, jobs, and employees.
You really can't go wrong if you have the determination to learn and succeed. Best of luck!

Give yourself as much exposure as you can to things you're interested in, whether it be through coursework or extracurriculars. Once you figure out your interests, you can start thinking about how you can translate those interests into a potential career. Many people who are in careers that they enjoy end up being happy and successful. It's a journey, you're not going to figure it all out right away. You won't know until you try.

I have found that goal setting is a great way to reach help outperform your potential. Set long term and short-term goals. When you achieve them, set another one, and another one. Never stop.
What is interesting about potential, is that it puts a limit on what you can achieve. Strive for continual growth. Keep pushing yourself and never stop asking questions. Keep educating yourself, even after you have received your degree or advanced degree.
If you truly want to set yourself up, then you need to be organized. Besides setting goals, you will need to understand how you can break the mold. How can you achieve top honors, and outperform everyone else? Push yourself to be the absolute best and start to align yourself with like-minded individuals. Do not let distractions hold you back.
