How do you make your college application/resume stand out?
I don't want to seem like an average student to admissions officers.

The most important part is that a resume should be well organized and try to keep it to one page. If you know someone from the company you would like to apply to, ask what order of information they look for. Keep the main points short and simple as an attention grabber and then add more information if needed.

Hi Asaiah!
The best way to stand out is to know what makes you special from the average student. When working on your resume think about the unique skills and things about yourself. Particularly if you have to write a college admissions essay- they are looking to hear from you who you are and why you are different.
Putting in effort goes a long way. If you have someone help you with your college application/resume and put in the work to make it well-written, it will show. You can ask your counselor for help, your teachers, or your parents. It is also a good idea to talk to the colleges you are interested in. If they come to your high school ask them how you can stand out. You can also call or email the college you are interested in to find out how to put your best foot forward.
Remember you are awesome, and you got this!

Adding a photo to your resume and making it more personal when writing about skills and experiences can go a long way.

To make your resume stand out, focus on what you achieved in the various roles you took on- not just what your responsibilities were. Showcase any special coursework you've done, internships, volunteer experience, and other extra curriculars that will signal well-roundedness. These show you can balance your time and hold down responsibilities outside the classroom. You might also include a skills section that highlights some of the "hard" skills you possess like fluency in another language, computer applications you are well-versed in etc.
