I think I've answered some questions like this before, so you can check out my other responses if you'd like. But I really enjoy this question and wish I had known the advice I'm about to give sooner. The most important thing I would've done is learn what it's like to actually practice law, which you're already doing by asking these questions. Good for you! I suggest talking to as many different kinds of lawyers as you can. Then, consider these questions:
- Do you enjoy research and writing?
- Do you like debating and making arguments?
- Are you interested in outsmarting the other side?
- Are you drawn to the business side of what clients do?
- Do you want to stand up against injustice? Is there a specific social issue that catches your attention?
- Are you more into big company deals and avoiding conflict?
- Do you like giving advice?
If you decide that being a lawyer is the right career for you, keep exploring different areas of law while in law school to find the perfect fit.
