Which are the best American colleges for user experience (UX) design?

Hi! I'm 27 years old and decide to invest 2 years in my life to join a graduate program. When I graduate again, I will be 29. It's not a very young age, so I'm careful in choosing which college to spend this 2 year with.

My future career plan is to be a UX designer, with focus on the intersection of data science and user experience design. If there is a chance to work with search experience, I will definitely go for it.

Which American universities are the best choices in UX design education? How will the recruiters see the universities? Thanks.

Bentley College has a great and distinguished HMI program that encompasses UI/UX Design. You can also get to the same place through local certificate programs at the StartUp Institute and General Assembly.
Thank you comment icon Hi Alwyn, thank you so much for your answer. I attended a one-day bootcamp at General Assembly in UX design, it's terrific. I'll also look into Bentley College. Kathryn

Hi Kathryn!

First off, congrats on making the decision to go back to school for your graduate degree. In terms of best US schools to go to for UX Design, here's a good site for you to reference: https://uxplanet.org/how-to-get-into-user-experience-ux-masters-degree-programs-in-the-u-s-19ec1701cee

Top 3 based on this site are Carnegie Mellon, Georgia Institute of Tech, & University of Washington.

I would say as a word of advice, the caliber of the program you enter is important, but also don't be afraid to consider the school's culture or even the city you'll be moving to. Best of luck!
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much, Tina. The reference page you gave me is very helpful. I will follow your advice and do some research on the universities' caliber, culture and city. Thanks again! Kathryn

Richard’s Answer

The University of Michigan offers robust programs, with some courses even being led by Dan Klyn, a renowned individual in the Information Architecture community. As a hiring manager, I'd like to emphasize that the choice of school isn't as crucial as your active involvement in the design community while you're in the program. This could include networking, attending events, volunteering at conferences, or taking up internships. So, go ahead and seize these opportunities to shine!
