Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. Many students have similar question. Firstly you may want to find out what you have interest to do now.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. your hobbies, favorite subjects, etc. and identify the related careers
E.g. If you are interested in Music, would you like to be a singer, musician, musical actor, music composer, music teacher, etc.
If you are interested in Maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, maths teacher, financial analyst, etc.
2. Find out more on these career and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 career you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in the college
Having said that, you may change your interest in your life time. Hence, you may change your career. This happens to many people. The most important is find out what you have interest now.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Dan’s Answer

My high school job was working in a restaurant and I loved it. When I graduated I went to find my "grown up" job. Went to school to be a teacher- hated it. Worked in a hardware store- hated it. Did maintenance in a museum- hated it. Finally went back to food service while I kept looking, realized I truly had a passion for cooking and went to culinary school! Try different things and weed out the duds. Work is always going to be work, but if you love what you do you at least won't dread doing it.

Dan recommends the following next steps:

Volunteer to get exposure to different vocations.
Look at your hobbies and interests and explore if there are careers to be had there.

David’s Answer

That's an excellent question.

It's important to stay open to exploring various possibilities when it comes to shaping your life. Spend some time reflecting on what truly brings you joy and what your genuine passions are.

Next, investigate how these sources of happiness and passions can be transformed into a career. Establish achievable goals for yourself and observe how it feels as you strive to accomplish them. Some objectives may be challenging, but if they align with your passions and bring you joy, the effort may be worthwhile.

Remember, try not to put limits on yourself to the possibilities you can tap into

Wishing you tremendous success!

Garrett’s Answer

That's an excellent question! Looking back on my journey in the banking world, I never imagined I'd work in this field right after high school. Surprisingly, my second job was as a bank teller. I discovered that banking is an exciting and intricate industry. Fast forward 27 years, and I'm still with the same company.

A helpful tip for finding your path is to connect with people from various fields, even if they're not your top choices. You never know, you might end up enjoying it! In banking, I've found that there's always something new to learn, keeping your job fresh and engaging.

Don't forget to research the company itself, as it plays a significant role in shaping your career and future growth.

Contact a specific firm or desired position and ask to work there on a break to see what you would be doing. Even one day or week of shadowing could be helpful.
