Cosmetology is offered at some high schools. I suggest searching the high schools near you and see if any offer cosmetology.
And also utilize YouTube. They have everything such as tutorials for hair, make-up, nails, etc.
I hope this helps.

Each state varies for requirements and can be found by searching “Texas board of cosmetology”. I would call local cosmetology schools for their minimum requirements as it will vary.
I’ve had high school students visit the salon for a day for job shadowing experience. You could possibly ask for a more thorough shadowing experience on different days with different services. I highly advise visiting a variety of salons.
To apply for a Texas Cosmetology Operator license, you must first enroll in a beauty school licensed in Texas. Beauty school students will be issued a student permit while in training.
Applicants for an operator license must complete one of the following beauty school training requirements:
* Complete 1,000 hours of instruction in a beauty school
* Complete 1,000 hours of instruction in a beauty school and 500 hours of related high-school courses as part of a vocational cosmetology program in a public school
* You hold a Class A Barber Certificate and have completed 300 hours of instruction in cosmetology through an approved training program in a beauty school.
Don’t forget to look for grants and scholarships on your state’s public education website for your career journey!

To begin learning cosmetology right away, you can search for easy-to-follow tutorials on YouTube or keep an eye on your nearby cosmetology school's social media pages for creative ideas and motivation. Moreover, ask your friends, family, or neighbors if they're open to letting you practice on them, as this can be a great way to gain experience in working with clients.
Thank you for the advice.

Hi Lonna,
I would suggest going online and watching hair tutorials. Look up hair artists/educators like Sam Villa for haircuts and Martin parsons for updos. You can access sites like Modern Salon and behind the chair for all different types of hair education and all the new and classic trends. I would also suggest purchasing a hair manakin from Amazon or your local hair store so that you can practice. Also check out ebay for manakins at a little more reasonable price. Below are some links of my favorite hair websites.
Free Salon Education- https://freesaloneducation.com/
Modern Salon- https://www.modernsalon.com/
Behind the Chair- https://behindthechair.com/
Practice on friends & family
Take photos of your work

Hi Lonna,
I’m Katie, a licensed cosmetologist in Florida. I agree with all of the answers above but also I think the best thing would be to check your state requirements for hours and starting age. In Florida, you can start cosmetology school at 16 years old and complete 1200 hours which is a like less than a year.
I hope this helps!
