How can I explore and learn about different jobs I may be interested in?

I’m thinking about having a career in the health professions field, but I’m not sure what specific job I should choose since I may not enjoy working in a hospital or clinic setting. I’m interested in science and know there are a lot of careers, but don’t really know what they are yet and haven’t gotten a chance to explore them. How can I explore and learn about different jobs I may be interested in?

I want a job that I can have fun doing while consistently learning new things. I love biology and research and also health science. #spring23

Hi Madeline,
I would like to know where you are in your career journey. If you are still in high school, many high schools have career education programs whereby you could explore the Health Sciences field further. Often, you can gain credit hours to take with you into college. My daughter did this and will finish Nursing school very soon. Spending time with a school counselor is a recommended first step, as they can guide you by matching your interests to the available offering. If you are in college, you should speak with an Advisor as they will fill the same role and lay out a path that matches your interests.

To explore and learn about different jobs you may be interested in, start by conducting thorough research. Utilize online resources, career websites, and books to gather information about various professions. Reach out to professionals in your network or those working in fields of interest to arrange informational interviews or shadowing opportunities. Consider internships or part-time jobs in industries you want to explore. Attend job fairs, career expos, and networking events to meet professionals and gain insights into different careers. Online courses, workshops, and seminars can provide a taste of specific job skills and industries. Finally, volunteering in various roles or pursuing side projects can offer hands-on experience and help you better understand your preferences and interests in the world of work.
