Your question is appropriate for all areas of study, not just nursing. The answer revolves around your own experiences in studying. That is, I suggest you allocate a specific time each day for studying and stick to it. That means, no TV, no social media chats, no distracting activity. People think they are studying when sitting outside with a book, or listening to their favorite music, but those are distractions. Once you have a set time allotted, see how your class work proceeds. If you're staying on top of subject material, then your plan is working. If you're struggling in class, then you need to revisit your time plan, increasing it or doing multiple shorter sessions. This can be especially difficult at first, as when you first go on campus and meeting new people, it is the easy route to focus on new friendships and new activities, but that is the primary time to set your schedule. I wish you the best.

To be clear, I'm not a nurse. However, to David's point, your question is appropriate for all areas of study. From what I've witnessed specifically with my friends who are nurses (whether they went to a 4-year or took community classes and eventually transferred, etc.!), understand your study habits and identify what works best for you. Some of my nursing friends would study as a group and test each other closer to their exams; some preferred to work alone with a white board for them to freely dump what they can remember (in order to see which material they're lacking in).

Once you're able to figure out what what works best for you (and maybe it's a mixture of both), find a routine. Eventually, your schedule will fluctuate depending on your courses and off-campus shadowing. Make sure you're able to find some time to rest.
