Schools are expensive because they are paying for your room, food, utilities, and someone to teach you while trying to make a profit or have budget for research and or projects. Scholarships are to help you pay for the school and because there are more students wanting them than money available you have to compete for them. Tobe competitive for school applications and scholarships: start working with your art teachers now on creating your resume and portfolio. Art schools, like S.C.A.D. in your home state need a well rounded portfolio along with academic scores, and test scores for their scholarship programs. When you can look for art camps and classes to get more projects outside of school to add to your portfolio. Let your CDF and school counselor know you are interested in the art and visual media career cluster and ask them what you need to qualify for work based learning, internships, and apprenticeships in your area. When possible apply for local and state art competitions. Direct classes for fashion are art classes, computer classes, shop class, and geometry. Other complementary classes to support a fashion degree will be personal finance, business, marketing, and history (fashion is cyclical).

Hi Olivia,
The world of fashion is a vast and exciting one, filled with various niches that you can explore and specialize in. Personally, I'm drawn to the art of pattern making. As an architect, I find the structural aspect of creating clothes and the process of bringing an idea to life truly fascinating.
There's a wealth of resources available for you to dive into this field. YouTube is a treasure trove of free videos that can help you get started on your fashion journey. It's a great way to practice and learn at your own pace.
Fashion magazines are another fantastic resource. They can provide you with a wealth of inspiration and insights into the latest trends and styles.
If you're interested in structured learning, there are numerous affordable courses available on platforms like Domestika. These courses are not only budget-friendly, but they're also designed to be completed at your own pace.
Remember, every fashion icon started somewhere. With dedication and passion, you're on your way to creating your own unique style. Keep exploring, keep learning, and most importantly, keep creating!
