Thank you comment icon Hi Zaley! Welcome to CareerVillage and thank you for the nice comment! Career prep should happen early and often. I'm not sure what grade in school you are or if you're out of school, but I encourage you to talk to folks around you about their careers. Ask them how they got into their current work, what they like/dislike, and what skills they think you should develop. Continue to read advice and ask questions on CareerVillage. Take a look at people's profiles on LinkedIn to learn about their career journey and get ideas. Watch videos on Roadtrip Nation on careers of interest. Talk to your guidance or career counselors at school. Join an organization or program that matches you with a mentor. These are just a few ways to get started! We're here for you. Good luck! yoonji KIM, Admin

PwC’s Answer

It’s totally okay to not know what you want your career/future to look like — many people don’t know even beyond high school, and for so many others what they think they want changes so much! Just try as much as possible and keep an open mind it will be okay :)

DISCOVERING A CAREER THAT SUITS YOU AND WHEN TO CONSIDER YOUR CAREER PATH

It's never too early to start contemplating your career options. However, don't let it become a source of stress. There's no set schedule for deciding on a career. But taking a proactive approach and allocating time to explore fields that intrigue you can be immensely advantageous for your future.

WHY YOUR CAREER CHOICE SHOULD INSPIRE HOPE, NOT DISCOURAGEMENT

If a career choice leaves you feeling disheartened, it's probably not the right path for you. Your chosen career should ignite your interest, stimulate your curiosity, and inspire you to grow. To perform at your peak, you need to be enthusiastic and engaged in your career. If it depresses you or distracts you, it might lead to boredom or lagging performance at work.

WHEN DO MOST PEOPLE DECIDE ON THEIR CAREER PATH

Truthfully, this is a decision only you can make. Moreover, it's not uncommon to start on one path and later pivot to another. For instance, I initially embarked on a journey in the restaurant industry, transitioned into retail, and later into moving and storage. After facing numerous challenges in my life, I chose to become a Volunteer and a Chaplain. These weren't careers I had considered in my youth, but life experiences led me to this new professional path.

Whatever path you choose, don't shy away from growth and learning. Use your life experiences to enrich your career journey, and always opt for a career that sparks your interest and holds your attention. Avoid choosing a career that dampens your spirits or doesn't interest you, as it can lead to quick burnout and hinder your growth. I hope this guidance assists you in your career choice. Best of luck!

You're not alone. You learn by doing so dabble in all your passions: intern, join an organization, etc. to see if that profession is really something you want to pursue. Finding a mentor is a really great resource too! Build your LinkedIn network, while looking for your mentor(s).
