A recruiter is a great place to start. Please also seek out an informational interview with a Transition Assistance Program (TAP) counselor (or specialist) in your area. The TAP program provides information, resources, and tools to Service members and their loved ones to help prepare for the move from military to civilian life and know the best career paths after service that naturally align to the knowledge, skills and abilities gained with service. By seeking out both you will get a good picture of the beginning of the career and end transition. Speaking of the beginning, I highly recommend an ASVAB study guide from your local library as your ASVAB score helps set where you start in your service career. Another option to open pathways is to complete dual enrollment classes your Junior and Senior years of high school and graduate with an associates degree and a high school degree. By doing this you may quality for officer's candidate school, higher rank, pay and more opportunities as you enlist.
Ask your school or community librarian for an ASVAB study guide
Speak to a recruiter about scheduling a test and your options (also when you can retest with experience after the first test)
Meet with a person whom specializes in getting veterans jobs in the civilian community to talk about open jobs, market trends and what naturally aligns
Consider taking classes for both HS and college credit through dual enrollment
Start a journal of all of the questions you have so you don't forget when you meet with the subject matter experts

Hello Allissa! It's important to always keep your personal well-being and desires at the forefront of your mind. As individuals, we evolve over time, and so do our aspirations. This process of growth is truly wonderful, and it inevitably brings about change. Essentially, there's no such thing as a final destination or 'it' place. As time progresses, you might feel compelled to explore new avenues, like pursuing a promotion or even making a radical career shift. My suggestion is to never restrict yourself by shutting out possibilities. Instead, actively seek out opportunities that offer valuable learning experiences which you can later apply in various aspects of your life. I hope you find this advice beneficial!

Dear Alissa,
To get the most accurate information, I recommend that you visit an army recruitment center and pose your question directly to them. They are best equipped to provide you with the specific skills needed for different careers and the opportunities that come with them.
When you talk to them, be open and honest about why you're interested in this career path. Pay close attention to what they tell you about the level of commitment required.
Remember, this is a significant decision. It's essential to gather as many viewpoints as possible. Often, we tend to make a decision first and then seek out people who agree with us to validate our choices. I would advise against this approach.
Best of luck with your assessment.
Best wishes,
Craig
