What is the best way to start an acting career as a teen without breaking the bank?
I want to start getting into acting, for example as an extra in a show, but since I live in a place where that doesn’t happened much, it’s hard to do anything without having to put in a lot of money

The modern generation is uniquely positioned to leverage the multitude of social media platforms available to gain recognition. Begin by establishing your presence on YouTube, TikTok, or Instagram. Through these platforms, you can share headshots, clips of your performances, and even scenes from your favorite shows or movies. You could even take it a step further and launch your own YouTube show! The possibilities are limitless, but they come with the need for significant effort and commitment. It's crucial to cultivate a strong following, devise a strategy to create viral content, and stir a sensation that will get you noticed.

If you don't live in a city where there's a lot of filming or Broadway shows, you should start with creating a name for yourself. as a way of getting people to come to you. You can start by opening an account with Audible (ACX) where you can narrate books. Several professional actors have chosen this path as a way to live out their passion for acting through narration or voice overs.
If this is something you want to consider, there are affordable equipment you can shop for on Amazon and several free workshops that show you how to do it.
Don't pay for courses before searching for free ones.
Once you create an account and have the equipment, upload some samples and authors and producers will come to you.

Thank you! I think this is actually a really good idea that I am willing to try out!

Hello Victoria,
Starting an Acting Career as a Teen Without Breaking the Bank
Starting an acting career as a teen can be an exciting and rewarding journey, but it can also be challenging, especially if you are trying to do so without breaking the bank. Here are some tips on how to kickstart your acting career without spending a fortune:
1. Build Your Skills and Experience Locally: One of the best ways to start your acting career as a teen without spending a lot of money is to build your skills and experience locally. Look for community theater groups, school plays, or local acting workshops where you can hone your craft for little to no cost. This will not only help you improve as an actor but also provide you with valuable experience that you can add to your resume.
2. Create an Online Presence: In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence can greatly benefit aspiring actors. Create profiles on platforms like Backstage, Casting Networks, or even social media sites like Instagram or TikTok where you can showcase your talent and connect with industry professionals. Many casting calls are now posted online, making it easier for you to find opportunities without having to travel or spend money on expensive headshots and portfolios.
3. Attend Open Calls and Auditions: Keep an eye out for open calls and auditions in your area or nearby cities. Many casting directors hold open auditions where aspiring actors can showcase their talent for free. By attending these auditions, you not only get a chance to be seen by industry professionals but also gain valuable audition experience that can help you in future opportunities.
4. Network with Industry Professionals: Networking is key in the entertainment industry, and it doesn’t have to cost a lot of money. Attend industry events, film festivals, or even local theater productions where you can meet and connect with casting directors, agents, and other actors. Building relationships with industry professionals can open doors for future opportunities and help you navigate the industry without spending a fortune.
5. Consider Online Acting Classes: If you are unable to access in-person acting classes due to location or cost constraints, consider taking online acting classes. There are many reputable online platforms that offer affordable acting classes taught by industry professionals. This can be a great way to continue honing your skills and learning about the craft of acting without breaking the bank.
By following these tips and being proactive in seeking out opportunities, you can start your acting career as a teen without having to spend a significant amount of money upfront. Remember that persistence, dedication, and hard work are key in pursuing a career in acting, so stay focused on your goals and keep pushing forward.

Hello, Victoria ! So happy to answer your question today ! Broken Arrow is sure a beautiful town and it is a fifteen minute drive from Tulsa. This is good for you because you can interview at the Linda Layman Agency in Tulsa. They book actors. Reel Talent Studio is another agency in Tulsa that represents actors for films, television and commercials. There are no agencies in Broken Arrow, however, there is the Military History Museum on N. Main Street where you can inquire about possible live action scene depictions, portraying characters of the era. Contact the Broken Arrow Historical Society at (918) 258-2616 to inquire about scene recreations depicting historical characters and life of the past. I don't think they have a website. It's always best to go in person.
As an actor, you will need photos and a resume. You or a friend can do these for you for free with a good digital camera and typing program. There is usually a financial side issue to being an actor. Transportation, photos, resumes, classes but try to take a class at your school if they offer that or an on-line free acting instruction. Go to You Tube and type in "acting lesson for beginners". This is a good way to get started for free.
Another way would be to meet other like-minded peers who are into writing and create some one-act play scripts. Post notices for this in your school or on Facebook if you have to. Approach the tourist business community to see who would be interested in having plays done in their space. Acting work does not come easy, much less outside of a major city. Once you gain substantial experience you can consider moving to where there are more opportunities.
Last but not least, register at Actors Access for extra work. If something is filming in Broken Arrow or nearby, there's a chance that you may be called. You will have to complete a form on Actors Access with necessary information and upload a photo of yourself. Casting agents use this site to consider possible actors for their projects all around the U.S.. You can upload two photos there for free and there is a template there to create your resume as well.
I wish you all the best as you begin your journey as an actor ! Have fun !
