Should I go in the Navy or go for my master’s degree when I turn 18?
I’m currently fourteen and starting University next month, I’m on track to graduate with my bachelors by the time I turn eighteen. I’ve wanted to join the Navy since I was a little kid, and I will, but should I finish with my master’s and then go into the Navy? Or go finish my master’s when I retire?

Hi Kayla, congratulations on making education a priority. I would suggest joining the Navy and utilizing their tuition assistance programs or GI Bill. If your schedule permits, you could take classes while in the Navy. I was actually able to finish my degree while on deployment through on-line learning. I know several people who finished their degrees while on shore duty also. That means you are not stationed on a ship for a period of time and you would have more of an opportunity to go to school. I would contact a military recruiter to go over your options. Good luck.

Congratulations on your accelerated education achievements. You have many options available to you. Once you have a Bachelor's degree, the US Navy will welcome you with open arms. Because you will be relatively young when you receive your degree, I would encourage you to continue your education and obtain your Masters degree. After you are commissioned in the Navy, and your career progresses you will have opportunities for even more education, specifically the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School where you can pick up a second Masters in a field relevant to your Naval career.
