Harvey’s Answer
Having spent some time shadowing Genetic Counsellors, the number one skill you will need is understanding the technical information, and being able to verbally communicate that to anyone you would meet, in a simple way which still explains the key concepts, as well as delivering potentially bad news empathetically and with consideration. When you are actually speaking with a patient, the maths and writing do not matter so much.

One would need a reasonable amount of probability and statistics in the genetic field. Your math skill will be beneficial in your pursuit of genetic counseling as a career.
As far as writing skill is concerned, you will improve in time if you keep on practicing good writing guidelines. In fact, one can draw on the virtue of mathematics to improve one’s writing skill in that mathematics is a concise, precise, and logical language.
If you can write concisely, precisely, and logically, it should be adequate for many careers. You do not need to write like Charles Dickens or Jane Austen to be in genetic counseling.
