To figure out what you enjoy or dislike, you'll need to explore various activities. If you're unsure, don't hesitate to try new things. Engage with your classmates, friends, school counselors, and alumni. Get involved in school clubs, community events, and career fairs. Participating in mentoring programs can also be beneficial as they pair you with a mentor who can provide ongoing career guidance. For more advice, check out Carla Harris on YouTube. Set up a professional profile on LinkedIn. Add your resume and make sure you complete all the areas it asks for. Many Recruiters will go seeking candidates out on this website even if you are not looking for work. But that is a way to network and get your resume looked at and profile seen. If someone reaches out to you then it's working. Hope this helps!

Starting with a clear understanding of your interests and what you're looking for is a great first step. Building a resume and submitting it on a career website could be your next move. This can be beneficial as these sites often tailor questions to your skills, helping you find jobs that suit you. Finally, don't underestimate the power of thoroughly reading a job description. It may seem obvious, but it's one of the best ways to kick-start your job search. Keep going, you're on the right track!

Begin by gaining a deep understanding of your unique strengths, talents, areas for improvement, and passions. Also, take the time to delve into various sectors, job positions, and organizations that align with your personal interests and career objectives. Make sure to establish your presence on professional networking sites like LinkedIn, and actively reach out to connect with industry professionals. This will help you broaden your professional circle. Remember, networking plays a pivotal role in uncovering job prospects that may not be widely advertised. So, keep your connections strong and your network wide.

Absolutely, I've been in your shoes. Without a college degree, I focused on my strengths and interests. Networking is crucial; connect with people in industries that catch your eye. Seek guidance from professionals who can help you explore options and tailor your resume. And remember, sometimes the best paths aren't the ones you initially planned for – my journey to supervising a facility maintenance company was unexpected but rewarding.

I think the first step is to just know that you're not alone in this journey of trying to discover what you want to do professionally! Everyone is trying to figure it out and even the people who seem to have it figured out on the outside... might actually end up realizing it's not what they wanted and pursue a career pivot!
Similar to what other people have shared, I would start by writing out a list of activities, things and companies that interest you. Poke around on career pages of companies and look on LinkedIn to see what type of jobs are out there. Pay attention to the skill sets these jobs are looking for and tasks that the job would include. See if you can take a relevant class at school to try it out - work your way up to an internship! Reach out to your network and/or friends who know people who are doing a role that you find yourself interested in and ask if you could have a coffee chat (virtual or in person!). If you're at a college - often they'll also have alumni networks, career fairs or even clubs that you can join and talk to people.
At the end of the day - everyone has to start somewhere and it's rare to know exactly what you want to do going into this journey. Wishing you the best of luck - you got this!

This is an excellent question and it's one that comes up frequently! Your personal passions and hobbies can significantly influence your job search, helping you find roles that are the perfect match for you. My advice is to undertake some evaluations to better understand your strengths and abilities. Tools like MBTI and 16 Personalities offer valuable insights into your interests and preferred work styles. For instance, being an introvert or extrovert can significantly influence your career choices and job opportunities. By exploring your unique skills, you can uncover a broader range of opportunities and pinpoint where to start your search.
As others have suggested, setting up a LinkedIn profile is a great first step. Once you have a clearer picture of your career choice, you can engage in networking, join groups, participate in discussions, and set alerts for jobs that pique your interest. It might also be beneficial to connect with others on LinkedIn who share your interests. There is also often information about job fairs in your area where you can network and connect directly with representatives from multiple organizations. These job fairs can be virtual or in-person events.
Finally, once you have a clearer idea of what you want to do, you could consider collaborating with a third-party agency that can pair you with employers looking for candidates with similar skills. I hope you find this all helpful! It might take a little time, but a strategic approach can speed up the process.
Wishing you the best of luck with your job search and future endeavors!
