Tom’s Answer

What's your goal? What do you want out of your college experience? Don't bother with prose or trying to sound noble and righteous about how you want to do anything other than get an education. The people who read these essays go through hundreds or more depending on the university. Be honest, be forthright, and yes, proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling does help a lot. But honesty is what helps most sometimes, since trying to get in by promising to save the world or do something great is a concept, but it's something that too many people try to do. Just write something that's honest and tells the reader that you do have a purpose.
That's a good start at least.

Paul’s Answer

Hello Presley,

I hope this can help you on the process of starting your essay. You should try creating a topic that appeals your interest and will also attract the reader as well. Also good grammar is important with writing an essay. Create a draft that you can keep editing until you feel that it is perfect. A good essay takes time to write so it is never to try to finish an essay in a week or two. The earliest you can start on the essay then the more time you can edit and proof read your draft. Feedback is also important for your essay as well so either have a friend or a writing tutor proof read your essay because there are some grammar errors that may be missed. Read your essay aloud because you will not be able to see a grammatical error until you read it out loud and notice if you did not express something properly. Hopefully this can help!
Thank you comment icon I just want to emphasize Paul’s suggestion to read your essay out loud to check for flow and errors. That’s such an easy and good way to ensure the quality of your essay. Holly Stichka

Fernando’s Answer

Think of the essay as a way of introducing yourself to the college. What are your academic and career goals? What inspired you to pursue them? Structure the essay in a way in which the answers flow into one another. While it's important to come across as humble when writing a college essay, don't sell yourself short. If there's a personal accomplishment that you're proud of, bring it up and elaborate on the experience. Be sure to re-read the essay and even read it out loud to make sure you spot any flaws or grammar mistakes.
