Great question, and great suggestions too :)
Remember, the whole world is a stage, and opportunities are there everywhere.
Like I tell some mentees of mine who want to venture into profitable business, "money is always lying on the street. You need eyes to see it and hands to pick it". This is true for any opportunity seeker. You need to be on lookout for opportunities to "perform" to your interest area. Once you are recognised as a "performer" in your groups (friends, family, any group where you are at the time like parties, family/friend event, outdoors, indoors, etc), you'd probably need to filter which invitation you want to accept.
All the very best on your endeavor

Hi Caleb,
What a great question! I think Erickah gave you some great suggestions and I would also recommend that you see if there are any opportunities to join a community based group where you live.
A lot of towns have acting, singing and musician troops that you can audition for or join. If you're an actor a great place to start might be your community theater -- see what's on their program for the year and see if it makes sense for you to audition.
Also -- social media is full of incredible opportunities. You can always get a group of friends together to produce and share your own original content/performances.
Good luck -- what's most important is that you find avenues to continue to express yourself and build your craft.

Hi Caleb
It's exciting that you want to get into performing. I love it!! You can perform in nursing homes, homeless shelters, open mic nights in restaurants, online, malls or stores, and skating rings. Or, you can organize a community event where people can perform as well as yourself. Most of these opportunities don't come by themselves they have to be sought out with patience. You can start by googling places near you, reaching out to them, introducing yourself, and express your interest in performing at their location. Best of luck on your journey!!

Hi Caleb, Erickah and Fatima have given you great encouragement and advice. I would just like to add that you might want to consider backstage roles also as you develop relationships with local theaters and other performance venues. I have two reasons:
1) Understanding what else goes into performance (e.g., lights, sound, props, costumes, etc.) will make you a better performer and easier person to work with
2) Developing relationships with a local performing arts organization will help you identify and win performing opportunities
I am active in our regional theater and have seen these two suggestions be effective.
Good luck!

Back in my journey, getting performance opportunities outside of school started by networking and showcasing my skills within my community. I connected with local businesses and organizations, attending events and workshops related to my interests. I also used online platforms and social media to share my work and connect with others in my field. It's all about being proactive, building relationships, and putting yourself out there. Remember, success takes time and effort, but persistence pays off.
