Paul’s Answer

I would create something called a Sports Resume and Cover Letter.

Sometimes we need to go to the coaches in order to get their attention.

And trying out for a college team is much like asking for a job, thus a resume can be used to highlight our abilities, skills, academics, and sports honors.

There are many examples of sports resume's and cover letters found on the internet.

Once you complete your resume and cover letter, select the colleges, you wish to attend, and send the resume and cover letter through the postal service directly to the coach at his athletic office. He gets thousands of emails, and sending it through postage will make you stand out, because it will land right on his desk.

I have had a great amount of success utilizing the Athletic Resume and Cover Letter with my student athletes at the community college.

Hey Nicholas!

I went through this as well and it's tough to stand out especially in CA. I've seen a lot of successful prospects documenting their journey on social media if you're interested in that or just putting together content you can send out to scouts/coaches of the schools you'd want to go to. This could really amplify your message and show a ton of people your skills. I'd recommend having a parent or friend take video of games and also you putting in the work to get better as well. It's obviously about having good skill, but college coaches also really want to see that you're committed, you have good character, you put in the work to get better, you're a leader, and that you'll be the right person they want on their team.

Keep putting in the work to get better and make sure to document your journey, even if it's scary and doesn't feel like it's perfect! Coaches don't expect perfection, but they do expect their players to work hard and not be afraid to do uncomfortable things to achieve their goals.
