Most law enforcement agencies are requiring at least two years of college or associate degree. I am not sure of your age. However, until you are of age to apply, make sure you stay out of legal trouble in order to pass all background checks and maintain a good physical body. Best Wishes lawenforcement

As stated in the other comments a lot of departments are requiring at least a two year or associates degree. There are some agencies that don't have that requirement, but the number is decreasing. In order to get an introduction to doing police work, some agencies have a cadet or Explorer program. Check with your local agencies and see if they have these programs or something similar. Also check you community college. They sometimes offer criminal justice studies designed to help you get you state certification in police science. I hope this information helps.

I am not sure how old you are, but picking a college that has a law enforcement program would be the biggest step. Most schools have some sort of law enforcement program, and you'll want to look into their placement success (how many student graduate and are able to find a job quickly in their field of study). I went to college for law enforcement, and though I didn't pursue it after graduation, I have many friends who did. Though it didn't use to be, getting a degree is becoming a necessity for quick placement in that field. Many in hopes of becoming a police officer will join the military. It's not a requirement but it makes getting hired a little easier, and it keeps you in good physical shape for the tests that you have to pass in order to become a police officer. Those that I know in the field went to college and graduated with their bachelor's degree (4-year degree), and were able to get placed in a local police station shortly thereafter. It's easier to start small, and then work your way up, either to a higher position, or to a bigger station, or even up to state or county policing, FBI, etc. I hope this helps! police police-officer career college
