Paul’s Answer

I was a student of Jimmy Radcliffe, the University of Oregon strength and agility coach.

Jimmy was one of the developers of the training field called "Plyometrics" which is a series of jumping, skipping, and muscle development exercises, meant to help athletes run faster and jump higher. So, Plyometrics training might be an option for you to consider.

Alex’s Answer

Hi Bill,

I played basketball for 10 years and ended up being able to touch the rim, but not dunk. My friends who were able to dunk focused on a really specific set of exercises that helps your fast twitch muscles. I would hire a personal trainer or go to a gym that specializes in this type of workout.

I was also playing soccer and running cross-country at the time which really reduced my ability to focus on basketball exercises to improve my fast twitch muscles.

I have lots of friends who were able to accomplish this through intense focus over the course of 1-2 years.

You got this!

Boosting your jumping ability isn't just about hopping around all day. It's a fun mix of boosting your body strength, picking up your running speed, sharpening your reaction time, coordinating your body movements, becoming more flexible, and improving your agility. So, let's not just focus on jumping, okay?

Make sure you're stretching those tendons, ligaments, and muscles all over your body every day. This will help you move your joints more freely. Don't forget to add a variety of fun and complex gymnastics moves to your routine. These exercises can really help you improve your body coordination. Remember, your movements should be precise, elegant, strong, and yet, relaxed.

Also, strength training is a key part of this journey. It's best if you can get a strength and conditioning coach to guide you. They can help you plan your workouts and make sure you're doing everything correctly. So, are you ready to jump into action?

Antonio’s Answer

Hello,

A great way to increase your personal jumping ability is to spend time working on plyometrics which are exercises designed for jump training that increase power and strength. Consistency in these exercises will improve results overtime.
