What type of roadblocks do people go through as electricians?

I am a middle school student who has considered being an electrician since elementary school. What type of roadblocks do people go through as electricians? Is it worth going to college for 2 years if I’m just going to get paid $51,300 annually?

Parents, teachers, and society. Everyone thinks you need to go to college and rack up $10,000’s to get a good paying job. It’s the exact opposite. Union electricians and also linemen make as much or more than many college graduates. With one HUGE difference. The trades are very short on people, where as college graduates are having a hard time finding work at all.

John recommends the following next steps:

Google IBEW
Talk to friends and family in the trades

It's absolutely worth going through the apprenticeship to become a Journeyman Electrician. Most employers pay for your schooling provided you work hard to get good grades. You enter into the workforce debt free and make a great living for the rest of your life. If you really apply yourself and learn everything you can there are plenty of positions making 100k+ a year.
