Moriah’s Answer

The best thing to start with is understanding what type of mechanics you want to specialize in. For instance, if you want to be a boat mechanic then you should be studying various types of boats and their parts. You should get to know the boat yards in your area and ask about what common problems their mechanics encounter. Once you have identified your preferred specialization, check the local colleges, junior colleges, technical schools, and continuing education organizations for degrees and/or courses in that specialization. Lastly, if there are any local businesses that have openings in any type of mechanics apply for them. This will give you a feel for the industry and will grant you some base knowledge. Pro tip: once you feel comfortable with your specialty begin studying other types of mechanics on your own time so, that you can broaden your understanding of the skill.
