Can i pursue multiple careers?

Hi growing up ive always had three passions. Science, Movies, and food. I was wondering if i could have three careers? I want to be a forensic pathologist. Which is a medical doctor who figures out the cause of death of a human by performing an autopsy. But i also want to direct movies and become a chef. Is this possible? I feel like the only way i can be happy and succeed in life is by pursuing all three careers. Can anybody help? Thanks #doctor #chef #forensics #director #pathologist

Hi,
I think it is actually better to pursue multiple careers, it broadens your experiences and makes you a better person and an employee with more experiences. I was always interested in the military but could not decide between the Army and Air Force, so I did both, I joined the Army Reserve and Air Force Reserve in different years and decided on the Army. Then I went active duty in the Army. Hope this helps.

Well of course you can. Sky is the limit for you! You can have majors and minors, You can play an instrument, or be an athlete. You can make the impossible possible. Aim high in whatever you do. Be the best individual you can be! My son took culinary arts got an AA degree then took Criminal Justice and got an AA in that and now he is taking MMA and working toward a degree in that. So yes you can do whatever you want especially when you are young until you figure out what you like the best. I would start with independent films you can do those as a student, while attending culinary arts class. However, premed and med will take way too much of your time to do this all at once. I would figure out what you want to do first and take either film and culinary together first or do pre med and medical first alone. You have great expectations and you are aiming high. Keep up the great work.!

Many great people have had many diverse careers. There are typically only two inhibitors -- Time and Money. If neither is an issue, then it will be about having a plan of attach. Anyone who has devoted themselves to one of these fields will likely tell you it takes a lot of skill, but also dedication to succeed in the field. Forensics requires a great deal of study, culinary arts requires practice and experimentation, and films require long hours and hard work.

Make a plan of attack. Spend a summer interning on a film as a production assistant. Find a college that has a good science program, in a region/city that will allow you to work on films and take culinary classes. You could look at a school like John Jay -- which would put you in Manhattan, and open up plenty of possibilities in film and culinary arts.

Hi Tyler, I ask myself this question all the time! The short answer is yes. I think the biggest obstacle you'll face is time, but it is definitely doable. For example, my day job is in technology, but I do human rights research in my spare time, and produce music in my spare, spare time. It can get tricky prioritizing it all, but if you're doing what you love, it's worth the effort. Good luck!

Great question. A good example you might take a look at is Neal Baer, he is a writer on TV and is actually a doctor with a degree from Harvard Medical.
