My college buddy stepped into the world of nursing, and she shared that the journey has been incredibly fulfilling! She embarked on this path amidst COVID, which indeed presented its own distinct hurdles. However, she was fortunate to be surrounded by a supportive team at her workplace. Embarking on any career can be a bit of a rollercoaster, but remember, you're capable and you can conquer it! A valuable tip to consider is seeking out a mentor. A seasoned nurse, who has been in your shoes, can guide you through the complexities of your new profession and offer the much-needed boost of encouragement and support. Keep going, you're doing great! :)

Hello Reana!
First off, I want to commend you for considering a career in nursing.
Indeed, nursing is both a gratifying and demanding profession. Nurses often grapple with issues such as insufficient staffing levels, resulting in hefty workloads and compulsory overtime, comparatively lower wages than other professions, and a lack of acknowledgment for their vital role in healthcare services. Other hurdles they face include the absence of hazard pay during health crises like pandemics, limited opportunities to take breaks or sick leaves, and exposure to physical and biological risks at work. Furthermore, nurses might sometimes feel their voices are not heard by the management and may find it challenging to meet patient expectations.
However, it's crucial to remember that in spite of these obstacles, nursing is an immensely satisfying career path that offers abundant chances for personal and professional development. Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system and their work positively transforms the lives of their patients.
I trust this information will provide you with some valuable perspective as you explore the possibility of a nursing career.
Wishing you all the best!

Bobah’s Answer
It was definitely difficult my first couple years of nursing. When I started, I remember being very scared of making a mistake and being overwhelmed by the sheer amount of tasks you have to do while continuously assessing your patient. I also felt very dumb and was very insecure about my own abilities. What really helped me was talking to the doctors and nurse practitioners and trying to see their point of view for why they were ordering medications for my patients. I would do my best to follow the doctors in the room whenever they talked to my patients and I would always try my best to read their notes which would provide some insight into their reasoning for the patients’ treatment plans. After my first year, I felt a lot more comfortable and really started enjoying my job but the first year is always rough.

Hello,
Any career can have it challenges; especially the medical field! It can change so much and frequently. My first year in the dental field was a learning experience. I look back now and think I really needed that first year to be tough.
You got this!
I wish you the very best in your career!
