Hello, Aubrey !

I want to assure you that you should not worry about career outcome right now for a couple of reasons. First, I'd like to encourage you to go through the Cosmetology program as soon as possible. The earlier the better. Instead of overthinking or being concerned about how much money you'll make in the future, focus on the personal goals that will give you the education and skill to learn everything you can about the work you love. Worrying and focusing on monetary gain is a barrier and can hold you back. In addition, it doesn't pay to focus on the salary part because even if you go into a different career later on for the money, you can always do hair styling and hair care part time at your convenience, freelancing. It's not worth worrying about.

Once you are licensed by your State, you will probably begin by applying to various salons. Your salary/pay will be whatever the salon owner offers you. It's sort of impossible to say how much money you will make because there are so many conditions that determine that. From observation, I can advise moving to a large city to increase your chances to gain a competitive salary. After some time in the business, some hair stylists in New York and Los Angeles make a surprisingly high yearly income. You would want to gear your career eventually to high-end service.
I see that you are in Modesto, so you may want to consider moving to Sacramento or San Francisco to pursue a high-end career in hair styling. You will also have to gear your services to a high income area where people will have a tendency to return to you frequently. I realize that a move to Los Angeles may not be doable because it is far from where you live. But keep in mind that everyone begins small and works their way into a larger salary as time goes on.

It can be hard to get started but it is a very rewarding career in which you can be your own boss and make your own hours. Building and maintaining a clientele is an ongoing job but if you’re passionate about what you do and treat people right, they will reward you!

I believe that it's your choice if you think it's something that will make you happy working with people's hair and creating styles for them that fit their personality etc. Things that make other people smile, can also make you smile. So don't give up, go and do something that makes you smile, if it's cosmetology, then go for it girl, I believe in you and all that you can do, you can do anything you want, as long as you set your mind to it, good luck and have fun!

Hi Aubrey!

Kudos to you for thinking about the practical aspects of supporting yourself while working as a Cosmetologist.

According to Salary.com, the average salary of a cosmetologist in the United States is between $20,000 and $30,000 per year. This figure varies depending on education, certifications, skills, and experience. The average hourly pay for a cosmetologist is $15.35, with a range of $6.73 to $27.88.

However, according to Zippia, the average salary of a cosmetologist in the United States is $37,122 per year or $17.85 per hour2. The bottom 10% of cosmetologists make roughly $25,000 a year, while the top 10% makes $53,000.

It’s worth noting that these figures do not include tips, which can increase the cosmetologist’s income significantly.

You can also increase your salary by owning your own salon and employing stylists, nail technicians and aestheticians who would perform complimentary services inside your salon who would bring in additional clientele and revenue streams.

I hope this helps give you additional information. Best of luck to you in pursuit of your dreams.

James Constantine’s Answer

Hi Aubrey!

What could possibly inspire women to visit a female cosmetologist? The allure of looking absolutely breathtaking, of course. I'm sure that many Hollywood celebrities wouldn't settle for anything less than top-tier cosmetologists! Who does Lady Gaga trust for her beauty needs? Let that person's approach inspire your business strategy.

It would be a game-changer if you're also knowledgeable about orthomolecular nutrition, a life-altering concept championed by Professor Linus Pauling in the 1960s. Many medical professionals aren't well-versed in the organic chemistry of, say, vitamin E. They often overlook the 8 stereoisomers, which are barely touched upon in medical school.

There's a lingering fear of vitamin A1 retinol, fueled by toxicity scare campaigns from the 1970s. As a result, people tend to avoid cod liver oil, despite only one recorded death throughout history. It's worth noting that vitamin A1 retinol is essential for maintaining healthy skin.

Incorporating nutritional principles into your business plan could be a key factor in your success! Don't overlook the importance of other nutrients as well! They're vital to your triumph! Use AI technology for your research needs.
