The word welder our welding covers a Vast expanse of a trade field , I started at a tech out of high school and fell in love with it, and giving real world experience and advice based upon my life experiences!
Like any trade our profession, the more specialized you become in your trade the higher your value and the more your in demand!
HONEST EXAMPLE
1= If your skill set only includes welding your value is at a entry level
2=welding + you learned to read Blueprints and can now learned fabrication and building parts your value increases
3= welding +fabrication +Blueprints +now your erecting buildings, bridges, anything you can dream of
4=specialized welding, under water, pipe, shutdown lists go on and on
So find your passion, find your specialty and with hard work dedication you can achieve anything!

Hi, how far or long we go as welders really depends on the welder. If it's something you enjoy you can do it for a long time and never get bored. For me, it was interesting and I've enjoyed it. There's always something in welding that you don't know and can learn. There isn't a time limit or standard here and you really get better with experience. This leads to some absolutely phenomenal welders with years of experiance. It can be hard on the body though and I've appreciated the times I could be in the fab shop as opposed to the field. Ultimately, it's a diverse trade with many avenues to pursue. Some can be very lucrative. You can perform this sort of work for years as long as you take care of yourself, be safe, and wear your PPE. Good luck, hope this helps.

Hi Evjna,
This is a great question! I will comment from the perspective of the proving ground garage where I most recently worked. Our team included electrical, general assembly and fabrication technicians and our focus was automotive and military advanced future vehicles. The work varied daily which made it very exciting. Welding was critical in the building of our advanced concept vehicles. Our Fabrication technicians fabricated small to very large parts – using numerous types of shop equipment, welding, working with engineers and CAD designers to develop concept vehicles including providing input on designs and concepts, and inventing. Our team was highly skilled and in great demand – it is a great field to go into.
Best wishes as you explore your future career.
