I would look at taking art courses, not only in school, but also outside school.
Design is becoming more technology oriented, so look for courses that emphasize computer art design.
Also, look for art courses at local community centers within your region. Any skills you develop in art and design will assist you in the future, whether it be sculpture, painting, drawing, and other skills.

Save all of your art work and sketches. You will need a portfolio to apply for art school if that’s what you choose to do.

Hello Ann-Leigh!
Great question & it's awesome to be thinking about this as you begin your high school journey. Being curious and thinking about this early on is a great first step.
Academics is a part of equation - make sure you're taking the classes that put you on the path to get into the schools that might suit your passion in fashion. Whether that is your core classes like math, science, etc. but also in ancillary courses. Maybe there are courses that lend themselves to the soft skills that can cross over into fashion design like theatre (i.e. costume design).
Throughout your high school journey you can also look into colleges for this line of work and their counselors can also help outline a path to put you in the best position to be admitted.
Extra curriculars is another great way of building out a high school resume that helps supplement experience/knowledge that maybe your core classes don't offer. For example, if there is a fashion club, internships or jobs. All those elements tell a great story of who you are and what you'd bring to that college campus.
Lastly, enjoy the journey of high school! If it interests you don't be afraid to explore different fields and classes. Best of luck!

Hello Ann-Leigh!
Firstly, let's focus on your academics. Excelling in your classes is a crucial step towards your future. Not only does it pave the way to college, but it also opens up opportunities for academic scholarships, and perhaps even a full ride. So, keep striving for those high grades!
Next, consider enriching your profile with some volunteer work. Colleges appreciate students who give back to the community. Try to dedicate some of your free time on weekends or days off to volunteering. It's a rewarding experience that will make you stand out.
In addition, have you thought about internships? Despite your young age, some organizations welcome high school interns. Why not explore opportunities in fashion design? This could be a great way to gain some hands-on experience in your field of interest.
Lastly, if it's within your reach, consider becoming an exchange student, even if it's only for a short period. This unique experience could provide you with a compelling story for your college application essay.
Remember, every step you take now is a stepping stone towards your bright future. Keep going, Ann-Leigh!
