I wholeheartedly concur with Elina's response and I'm here to build upon it, to give you a little more encouragement.

When you're just dipping your toes in the water, your approach can vary based on whether you're more introverted or extroverted. Here are a couple of paths you might consider:

1. As Elina suggested, you can take advantage of free or inexpensive online platforms like Coursera or Udemy to get your feet wet. Starting with a language like Javascript or Python is a great idea. Don't worry, this is just the beginning - you'll get to explore many more languages down the line.

2. If you're more of an extrovert, consider joining a community that shares your interest in Computer Science. I found this incredibly beneficial when I was starting out.

Once you've taken the first step, the next big leap is learning how to tackle problems. In the world of Computer Science, we refer to these as Algorithms. Plenty of online courses can guide you through this. It's not just about knowing how to code, but understanding why you're choosing a specific approach. This knowledge will give you a leg up on the competition.

When you start to feel at ease (or even a little before that point), it's a good idea to explore internships. While these are typically done during college, getting a head start can give you invaluable insights into the current state of the field.

I hope these suggestions inspire you and help you on your journey.

Elina’s Answer

In addition to finishing high school and college, I strongly recommend dedicating time to personal projects aligned with your interests. Whether it's a small coding venture or a substantial business idea, engage in consistent coding. Utilize platforms like YouTube, Coursera, or other online resources to enhance your coding skills. During your senior year in high school or when you are in college, actively participate in hackathons. Even if you're unsure about your project, attend for the valuable experience, networking opportunities, and the chance to gain motivation and inspiration.

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. I am glad to hear that you would like to become a programmer.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Take ICT / Computer Science in your high school course
2. Explore the entry criteria of Computer Science in the college and ensure you are eligible for it
3. Start doing your own programming on some simple programming language first, e.g. Python, Scratch, etc. You can learn the syntax and structure yourself. There are plenty of resources online
4. Start doing some simple programming and projects, e.g. control a robotic arm, toy car, etc. You can learn another one after you familiar with the language
5. Explore any intern opportunities working in software companies
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
