Hello, Laney !

A career in fashion is a wonderfully creative and fun but competitive field of work. It takes a lot of education, practice, discipline and determination. Every fashion designer has started their career by fully immersing themselves in all aspects of the industry such as designing, garment construction, as well as the business end, presenting and selling their line to markets and retail stores. If you already do not see these abilities in yourself, you may consider focusing on your other interests. Fashion is an opinion business just like many or all of the arts, so people dedicate their life to it and it can be challenging.

You should discover your aptitude for sewing because fashion is a lot more than drawing. Many of the aspects of the field would be taught to you if you go to Fashion School, including sales and marketing.

You've mentioned that your grammar needs improvement and it is good that you discovered that you'll need to work on that. I am not sure of your age or what grade you are in but there will be many steps towards learning what you need to do and than to build up to a career. I would advise getting extra help with English grammar on line or from a tutor. You will need to build your public speaking and writing skills because as a designer you will need to prepare and do many presentations and feel confident speaking in classrooms, meetings and shows. It is a fast paced type of career and the all round skills you'll need will come together in time.

So what you could do now is learn sewing and pattern making, draw your fashion plates every day and make your garments so that you will have a collection by the time you graduate high school. The next step will be to decide if you want to go to fashion school where they will prepare you for a career. Read as much as you can on line about being a fashion designer and build a support system for right now through family and friends.

I wish you all the best in school and in the future !

Kicking off your journey in the fashion industry with internships is a great starting point.

To land a full-time fashion job, it's essential to have at least 6 months to a year's worth of internship experience under your belt. No fashion house will hand you a full-time role without a solid internship background. The good news is, these 6 months or a year don't have to be spent at the same company. You could intern for 2 months at XYZ, another month at ABC, and so on. The key is to rack up a total of at least 6 months of internships before you set your sights on a full-time fashion role.

On a brighter note, companies tend to advertise more internship positions than any other type of job, so you'll have plenty of options to choose from.

Best of all, in most cases, internships don't require any prior experience. This makes them a perfect fit for students or fresh graduates.

Even if you're still hitting the books, you can start paving your way in the fashion world by taking up internships during the summer break or juggling part-time internships alongside your studies. This way, you'll keep building on your experience. And if you manage to bag some impressive internships during your college years, you might be able to leap straight into a full-time job right after graduation.
