Hello Tutt! That's an excellent question!
An artist can be thought of as a creative spark within you that perceives the beauty in everything and then transforms it into something for everyone to appreciate.
The concept of an artist can be viewed from numerous perspectives. It could be the Artist who envisions a painting on a building, transforming it into a vibrant Mural. Or the Artist who finds beauty in landscaping and shapes it into a serene park. It could be the Artist who uses their welding skills to create a flawless row of beads, resulting in aesthetically pleasing cars. It could be the Artist who looks at your hair and concocts the perfect color for you. Or the Artist who identifies a style and pioneers a new fashion trend. The realm of Art careers could even extend to fields such as Graphic Designing, Photography, Interior Design, Illustration, or even Art Education!
The possibilities to identify an Artist are endless! Art is a beautiful expression that deserves to be shared with the world! I hope you discover your inner artist and when you do, let it radiate brightly!
Best of luck in your career! Remember, it's okay to say No! You've got this!
Cheers, Jodi

Dear Tutt,
A truly exceptional artist is one who can transform their way of interacting with others, shifting the dialogue from ordinary to extraordinary. This allows the audience to grasp a unique perspective through the artist's expressive medium. Such creative communication sparks the mind, fostering fresh ideas and perspectives. In essence, this expression broadens the horizons of the viewer, listener, or recipient. This mental stimulation can trigger the release of invigorating substances that promote human activity.
An artist's mode of communication is delicate and sophisticated, much like a symphony orchestra, rather than being rough or crude. This finesse is honed over time, enabling the master artist to resonate with a wide audience. However, in a world driven by financial objectives, truly gifted artists are becoming increasingly rare. The ideal artist is unbound, but we all need to earn our keep.

Hello, Tutt !
Kelly in NYC just asked a very similar question as this one three days ago and I gave some advice which I will duplicate here for you, too ! Here was my advice for Kelly which I am sure could shed some light for you, too !
I would be so happy to give you some advice about being an artist ! Since you live in New York City, your opportunities abound !
I would first like to advise that you participate in the Whitney Museums' Teen Program ! It is a rare and exciting opportunity to create art with professional artists, discuss and learn to critically think about art, all this and an Open Studio offered for you. Please visit them in person and see their website at the link I've left below.
Free Art New York City has a wonderful opportunity for you as well. They offer Portfolio Development, Creative Lab and Internships. Sounds awesome to me, so I would highly recommend this. I have left a link to their website below, but you should visit them in person at 1431 Broadway, 8th Floor.
For additional opportunities to experience art, you can participate in free art and theatre classes and camps for teens. A link to their website is below. They are located in Connecticut. You can also explore art through the teen programs at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), also. The link to their website is below. There are also so many more opportunities in all the boroughs and tri-state area for you to explore. Search for them online and have fun !
You become an artist by starting. Figure out which medium you would like to start out with and obtain art supplies. Being an artist is special. It means that you have the talent to create, not whether or not you're getting paid for it - but that can come in time or at any time. So, one is either an artist or not. I think you will have personal and creative growth as you experiment with a wide range of art, discover your niche. You may also find out that you have a knack for many different types of art. My own mother was a professional artist and began in her forties - it's never too early or late ! To read about "what is art", you may want to research some philosophers on line and decide your own way of defining art.
Have a lot of fun, meet new friends and discover the magic in your creativity while making lots of new, like-minded friends ! Best wishes !

Tutt, the artist, is a beacon of passion and creativity, spinning dreams and architecting feelings. To comprehend them is to journey through the imaginative domains where reality and fantasy intertwine. Artists are more than just wielders of brushes or sculptors, they are guardians of the unseen, sailing across the expansive canvas of human experience to draw inspiration. My son, a versatile artist, sees artists as magicians, giving shape to the shapeless and infusing life into the silent echoes of the soul. The artist's journey is a harmonious ballet of chaos and order, a melody strummed on the chords of intuition, probing into the human psyche to transform raw emotion into palpable expressions. My son shared with me that the path of an artist is unpredictable, an expedition into the uncharted, a continuous pursuit of self-discovery through imagination. Ultimately, the artist is both a creator and a creation, an alchemist turning the ordinary into the extraordinary, providing a multi-colored lens to comprehend the core of humanity.
