Hello Ariadna!

It's crucial to identify and remember these key values when considering your future career. Here are some prominent professions that incorporate these values:

1. Social work, counseling, or psychotherapy: These roles involve assisting individuals in managing challenging aspects of their lives.
2. Non-profit roles: These positions allow you to positively influence your community or engage in advocacy work.
3. Nursing: The roles require compassion and resilience to handle the physical and emotional demands of patients.
4. Teaching: Compassionate teachers can establish nurturing learning environments. As a former teacher with a decade of experience, I can attest that it's a gratifying career that promotes community, compassion, and resilience.

If you've thought about these options and are interested in exploring something unique, I suggest you consider B corporations. These are businesses that meet social and environmental standards, balancing financial objectives with societal goals, and often prioritizing people in their mission.

Best of luck on your journey!

Hello, Ariadna !

Such an outstanding question deserves many thoughts and suggestions and I would like to contribute to the already wonderful advice you have received. I am not one for generalizing so my thoughts about the traits you've mentioned may be a bit different but for good reason. I base my thoughts about it on experience and observation. Every single field of work should align with the values you've highlighted, but it's not always the case, as I believe that people are individuals, different, and do not always bring the same ethics to their work. Sometimes outside factors do not allow them to hold these qualities.

The first profession that came to my mind is any of the faith based professions. Although not considered employment or "a job", secondly I would place parenthood as being a crucial role for those values. I also think that anyone working with animals goes into that work for the reason of their strong compassion and empathy. Funeral Directors also have these qualities.

Always remember, it is not the career that generates values. It is what the person brings to the job that makes the work high quality and beneficial. It is the person that has developed a personal sense of ethics and standards that creates the positive environment and makes other people feel good about themselves. Resilience comes with mental and psychological maturity so any profession is benefited by their people having this ability to effectively handle stress and trauma while on the job.

I believe that you hold community, compassion and resilience very high in your life and probably want a career that can allow you to be yourself and stand by your values. I just want to advise that no matter what career you choose, you will be able to align those abilities because you already believe they are how you want to be.

I wish you all the best !

Hi Ariadna! Those are awesome things to value in a career. The first things that really come to me are social work, nonprofits, teaching, therapist, nursing public health, and working with animals. There are ofcourse SO many more though!

I think knowing that you really value those three areas is an excellent start, and there is so much opportunity out there with jobs that encompass those fundamentals.

I think a great way to learn more about those careers is to go on youtube or research the day to day of what working in that role is like!

Lots of jobs/careers align with these passions. The trick is finding what you love doing and ensuring the company you decide to work with also values these things. Talk with your guidance counselor or another trusted adult and enlist their help with you pursuing what you are passionate about. The biggest thing is learning about you and what you may be willing to love as a career. Be flexible in your choice and understand this can change in time. I love the book, Strengthsfinders 2.0 which talks about finding ones strengths and applying them. There is a cost to take the test and use Gallup along with that, though. Many organizations do this for their employees and a lot of schools will have the book and codes to take the tests available for free as well. There are some other resources below that can help guide you too. Find what you love, then search for careers in that area. When you find a job, look for a good leader to help you grow and learn. The rest will be easy :)

Here are some other resources to learn more about yourself too:
https://www.16personalities.com/- free personality tests that says what careers may apply for your personality type (this is close to the Myers Briggs tests that many companies and leaders use today)
If you don't want to invest in the Strengthsfinders 2.0 book to get the code, get it from your library and see if you can purchase a code separately for less if they don't have any to give at the library.
Ask guidance counselors at school if they have pathing tests free to students to help them.
