These schools have reputable nursing programs, so be sure to research and consider factors like location, cost, program offerings, and student support services to find the best fit for you. Absolutely, there's a world of excellent choices out there, and you can't really go astray. Kansas University and the University of Washington stand out as two premier programs. But remember, many local universities also offer top-tier programs for NCAA division II schools, like Pittsburgh State in Kansas.
Why not take a trip to your local hospital? Simply request to chat with a few nurses. They're usually more than happy to share their experiences and guide you. By doing so, you'll unlock a treasure trove of information. Just head to a hospital, approach the information desk, and ask to converse with nurses who might be on their breaks.
You'll find nurses there who can steer you towards the right college for specialized fields like emergency, or maternal care. Take my mother's story, for instance. She was an emergency room nurse who earned her degree from Fort Hays college in Kansas, a relatively small school. She spent years in the emergency room before transitioning into a school nurse role. She was even a pioneer of tele-medicine in the early 2000s, long before COVID and remote operations became commonplace.
She enjoyed a rewarding career, and her degree from Fort Hays college served her well. So, remember, there's a multitude of options out there. I can't emphasize enough how crucial it is to seek advice from those already in the field. You might even find a mentor or two who will guide you through your nursing career journey as you evolve over the years.
