What should I do Psychiatrist or an Architective Teacher?
I'm stuck in the middle of these two career paths and I'm trying to figure out which one is better cause a (P) pays better and the pay of going to college and working pays itself. On the other hand (AT) doesn't and takes 10 years to graduate and doesn't pay for it's self.

Just know that becoming a psychiatrist is still going to take minimally 12 years of education and that is planning no gap years in there which a lot of people take before starting medical school to make their application more competitive. Cost and reward benefit are absolutely important when looking at career choices but they don’t make up the entire decision. Living comfortably vs living high class is not going to count for much if you are miserable in the work you are doing. If you are interested in medical school make sure to follow a physician and see what the inside of a hospital is like and get a feel for what all goes into the work because it is a lot, and if you don’t live it it can be very difficult for people.

Hello Amber,
Choosing Between a Career as a Psychiatrist or an Architectural Teacher
Making a decision between pursuing a career as a psychiatrist or an architectural teacher is undoubtedly a significant choice that requires careful consideration. Both career paths have their unique challenges, rewards, and opportunities. To make an informed decision, it’s essential to weigh various factors such as personal interests, financial considerations, educational requirements, and long-term career prospects.
Psychiatrist:
Becoming a psychiatrist involves extensive education and training. After completing a bachelor’s degree, aspiring psychiatrists must attend medical school and then complete a residency in psychiatry. This path typically takes around 12 years of education and training beyond high school.
Psychiatrists are medical doctors who specialize in mental health. They assess, diagnose, and treat mental illnesses through a combination of medication management and psychotherapy. Psychiatrists work in various settings, including hospitals, clinics, private practices, and academic institutions.
In terms of compensation, psychiatrists are among the highest-paid professionals in the healthcare industry. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), the median annual wage for psychiatrists in May 2020 was $220,380.
The demand for psychiatrists is expected to grow in the coming years due to increased awareness of mental health issues and the need for specialized care. This growing demand may lead to more job opportunities and potentially higher earning potential for those entering the field.
Architectural Teacher:
Becoming an architectural teacher involves pursuing a career in academia within the field of architecture. This path typically requires obtaining a bachelor’s degree in architecture followed by a master’s degree or even a Ph.D. in architecture or a related field.
After completing their education, architectural teachers may pursue positions at universities or colleges where they teach courses related to architecture, design, and related subjects. Additionally, they may engage in research and scholarly activities within their areas of expertise.
While the educational path to becoming an architectural teacher can be lengthy—often requiring at least 6-8 years of post-secondary education—it offers the opportunity to contribute to the next generation of architects and designers while engaging in scholarly pursuits.
In terms of compensation, architectural teachers generally earn competitive salaries within academia. According to data from the American Association of University Professors (AAUP), the average salary for full professors at U.S. colleges and universities was $104,820 for the 2019-2020 academic year.
Considerations for Decision-Making:
When deciding between these two career paths, it’s crucial to consider not only potential earnings but also personal interests, lifestyle preferences, and long-term career satisfaction. Both fields offer unique opportunities to make meaningful contributions to society while enjoying intellectually stimulating work.
For individuals considering psychiatry, it’s important to weigh the commitment required for medical school and residency training against the potential financial rewards and the opportunity to make a direct impact on patients’ mental well-being.
On the other hand, those interested in becoming architectural teachers should consider their passion for teaching and research within the field of architecture. While this path may require significant investment in education, it offers the chance to inspire future generations of architects while contributing to advancements in architectural knowledge.
Ultimately, the decision between pursuing a career as a psychiatrist or an architectural teacher should align with one’s passions, values, and long-term career goals.
