Dr. Sudeep’s Answer

There is an assumption that speaking to others is in the form of oral communication and skills with responsibility means you are abiding to rules, good ethics and proper governance. If this is your concern, there are enough material to explain how all this helps in one's career.

But please do not forget that silence, not speaking or saying things through your actions also speaks volumes, for example, a smile, having positive energy, being attentive etc.

In addition skills with responsibility can also mean knowing when to speak, when to act and how to engage and when not to interfere and interfere when necessary. These are also skills.

Larry’s Answer

Jaynie -- I've never been a nurse, but I was in the care of many nurses during an extended hospital stay. I was amazed at how completely some of the nurses understood my condition and current status. These women had numerous patients, yet they were highly informative on my health condition.

In other words, for me a good nurse was one who had the ability to understand details of my condition and to answer my questions about it. This was important, since often doctor's visits were brief, while these nurses were with me throughout the day.

For me a good nurse is not just a good communicator, but an intelligent one.
