Hello,
While in any profession you must be responsible for every individual action however while being a coach, broadcaster, or reporter you are in the public eye often and must take precaution at all times. You will be held at a higher standard as most will look to you as role models in society.

Kevin, great question!
I currently work for three sports organizations (IMG Academy (Admin), TB Buccaneers (Events), & Pittsburgh Pirates (Florida Ticket Office)) and I will say that responsibility is top priority. You are a representative of the organizations that hire you to perform at a high level! It is expected of you as an employee to uphold the policies and procedures that a sports organization has in place to be successful. Ultimately, It is important for you to be responsible for any organization that brings you on (regardless of the job/industry).
Let me add that an announcer, coach, and reporter always have eyes on them. They need to be a positive influence on their peers, viewers, players, audience, and community! Overall, a winning organization's employees are disciplined, responsible, they are leaders, and go above and beyond their roles.
I hope this provides some guidance! Good luck!

We always must take responsibility for who we are and what we say! Being in the public eye as a sports broadcaster or coach takes a person who will be a great mentor and spokesperson for the world of sports ! You’re going to be a role model for many young men and women. So as I said take responsibility to heart when pursuing this type of career!

As a young person, I thought I was ready to be a sports reporter because I loved sports. I applied for a position as a reporter in a newly formed women's program. I quickly realized that I was not qualified as the other applicants had either played sports or knew the many competitive games inside and out. Ultimately, I became a news reporter.
To be a sports reporter, one must live and breathe sports. By that I mean, you must understand the discipline of each sport. As a reporter, you must be able to site statistics, names, accomplishments and do it all with unending enthusiasm. You must have a maturity that you may be reporting at night or during the middle of the day and that professionalism must carry throughout each report.
If you are serious about sports reporting, I urge you to intern with your college sports program.
You may want to write flash cards for yourself, so you know the statistics, accomplishments and players for each sport.
You may want to read many different sports articles, which these days appear mostly online.
Listen to the delivery of various sportscasters, if you are wanting to report in the business.
Remember enthusiasm is professionalism in the game of sports.
