How can I prepare to be more positive even as a police officer when dealing with suspects and criminals?

One thing that I like to remember is that even though you must keep professionalism while dealing with suspects or criminals, just remember that they still humans. Respect is a two-way street, and it goes a long way!

Hi Jason. Sometimes being empathetic can help when dealing with criminals. You have to remember that regardless of what you suspect they did, they are innocent until proven guilty; we must always treat subjects with dignity and respect even when we may not want to. I suggest reading about Police Codes of Ethics which can give you a pretty good idea on how police officers should conduct themselves. Good Luck!
