I am interested in running my own excavation/ landscaping/construction company. I value money, family/friends, and creativity. Will this career path align with my values?
Is this a good career?

It certainly could! Like most things in life, your career is what you make of it. With the right intention, you can find creativity, money, or friends in any line of work, and excavation/construction/landscaping is no different.
Another angle to consider is that your career can also enable you to live the other parts of your life to fuller extents, and that might be where you find more alignment with your values. For example, if you have a strong network of family and friends before you start your career and you want to prioritize those relationships, then you might want to find a job with a good work/life balance that will allow you to take time off to spend with them. It's certainly important to be in a career that aligns with your values, but it's also okay if you get more fulfillment out of the rest of your life and then your career enable that!

Starting a landscaping/excavation business could be the perfect solution to achieving your dreams. Imagine being your own boss, steering the ship of your very own company. It's a big job, but you don't have to do it alone. You can share the load with others, making it a real team effort. Picture this: one of your family members could handle scheduling appointments, another could take care of providing estimates, and yet another could manage office tasks like accounting and purchasing. You could even have a few more people working onsite, ensuring everything runs smoothly. And as for you? You could put your creativity to good use by serving as the project design resource. It's a great way to make the work more enjoyable and fulfilling.

Hello Brandyn, your plan is indeed impressive. I, too, dabbled in landscaping and lawn care in my younger years, but it seems you possess a greater drive than I did.
To kick-start your journey, it's crucial to immerse yourself in this industry. Consider securing a position with a local landscaping or lawn care service. This will not only allow you to earn a living but also gain hands-on experience and learn the ropes.
As you save money, start investing in essential equipment like a lawnmower and a weedeater. You may already have these tools at home. Gradually, seek out small jobs independently to earn extra income.
Reinvest your earnings into more advanced equipment. Over time, you'll find that you've built up enough resources and clientele to leave your job and establish your own business.
Further down the line, consider expanding your business by merging with or acquiring competitors. This might require financial support from a bank or external investors. You could also explore the possibility of applying for a small business grant.
Remember, continuous learning is key throughout this journey. Whether it's on-the-job training or formal education in Architecture or Engineering, always strive to broaden your knowledge. As you delve deeper, you'll discover what truly piques your interest and drives you to accomplish your goals.
