Hi Mike! I've worked as a software engineer for the past 10 years and have enjoyed a high amount of independence. I frequently work with other people (both technical and non-technical) in my company to help build solutions to their problems. And, generally, I have a lot of independence when it comes to how I go about solving those problems as long as we agree on the final objective. We typically plan out what we want to achieve, and then I can go off and implement it, checking in occasionally to make sure we're still on the right path. For me, it's the right combination of working with people and writing software on my own.

Hey Mike, I think that software engineering is a really great fit for what you're looking for. If you have a specific interest in engineering, I think it'll be a great fit, but with the world moving towards remote-work in recent years, don't feel any pressure to specifically focus on programming. Many roles at companies (Sales, Success, Product) can all be great for folks who are want flexibility and independence and many of those roles will allow you to make an impact!
