Time management is an essential part of maintaining a great work life balance. It is also important to take breaks and enjoy your hobbies. Schedule it! Have a calendar set up that sets time aside for you and your hobbies. Make sure you devote the time to the things you enjoy the most. And remember hobbies should be enjoyable and fun! If you feel that you are not getting that from your hobbies, they are stressful or they see too time consuming and not what you thought they were, take a break.
Taking time for yourself is important while working full time. It allows your body to manage stress more effectively.

Have a good day!

Hi Raphael,
I hope you are well.
This is an interesting question and one that many of us working professionals often struggle with, especially if we have other commitments e.g. family/sport's.

My advice is:

1. Review your week as you would your work day in the morning. Where are there gap's in your day ( morning OR evening)? If so, is there a running trend e.g. Monday's/Tuesday's are free after 6.00 p.m.
2. Decide what hobby you would like to enjoy? How much time would you like to dedicate to this hobby? Research if this is available in your local area, if not, it is best to understand logistics ( public transport).
3. Individual OR group hobby? Sometimes if there is a few people attending an activity we are more inclined to stay committed and show up.
4. Challenge yourself to do this for 4 weeks initially, then another 4 week's etc
5. Don't be afraid to change your mind again and again until you find something you enjoy.

Best of luck!
Valerie

Juggling your hobbies with a full-time job might seem tough, but with good time management and prioritizing, you can still enjoy a rich personal life. Here's how to keep up with your hobbies:

Set Aside Hobby Time: Reserve specific time slots in your day for your hobbies. Think of these slots as unchangeable, just like your work commitments.

Focus on Your Favorite Hobbies: Figure out which hobbies are most important to you and concentrate on those. This lets you devote time to the activities that bring you the most happiness and fulfillment.

Set Doable Goals: Set realistic targets for your hobbies. Break them down into smaller tasks and stages so you can make headway even when time is tight.

Blend Activities: Try to weave your hobbies into your everyday routine. For instance, if you love reading, you could listen to audiobooks on your commute.

Make the Most of Weekends: Use your weekends to dive deeper into your hobbies or explore new ones. Weekends usually offer more flexible time for longer activities.

Learn to Decline: Be aware of your commitments and steer clear of taking on too much. It's fine to say no to extra duties that might eat into your hobby time.

Manage Your Time Effectively: Make the most of your work time to boost productivity. This can help you finish your tasks during regular hours, freeing up more time for your hobbies after work.

Mix Hobbies and Social Time: If you can, get friends or family involved in your hobbies. This lets you enjoy quality time with your loved ones while doing your favorite activities.

Stay Adaptable: Life is unpredictable, and plans can change. Stay flexible and tweak your hobby time to fit in with unexpected events without getting stressed.

Prioritize Self-Care: Balancing work, hobbies, and your personal life means taking care of yourself. Make sure you get enough sleep, exercise, and downtime to maintain your overall health.

Keep in mind, striking the right balance might take some experimenting. Adjust your strategy as necessary to make sure you can keep enjoying your hobbies while managing your full-time job successfully.

Angelina (Yun Chu)’s Answer

To strike a harmonious chord between your full-time profession and personal interests, masterful management of time is key. Start by ranking your obligations and carving out specific periods for both job-related duties and leisure activities. Strive to be as productive and effective as possible during your work hours, so you don't end up eating into your personal time. Moreover, seize the opportunity of weekends and relaxation periods to delve into your hobbies. These are the moments when you're free from professional responsibilities and can immerse yourself in your interests to your heart's content. Last but certainly not least, as you journey through life, why not contemplate merging your professional talents with your hobbies to discover a beautiful harmony between your career and personal interests!

Hello Raphael!

I totally get where you're coming from. Juggling hobbies with a full-time job can be quite the challenge. But fret not, I'm here to help!

One way to tackle this is through organization. Take some time to plan out your week and carve out moments for your hobbies, whether it's after work or on weekends. Also, it's important to prioritize what you truly enjoy doing. Figure out what brings you the most joy and allocate more time to those activities. And don't beat yourself up if you have to choose between them sometimes – it's all part of the game!

Flexibility is key too. Things don't always go as planned, and that's okay. If you can't dedicate as much time to your hobbies as you'd like, don't stress! Even just a few minutes a day can make a difference. You can also blend your hobbies with other activities. Maybe listen to your favorite tunes while working out or read a book related to your interests during your downtime.

Lastly, if feasible, have a chat with your boss about your interests and the importance of maintaining a work-life balance. You might just find a solution together to help you enjoy your hobbies more!

Remember, finding that balance takes time, so don't get discouraged and keep exploring what works best for you. You've got this!

May the force be with you!

Adrienne’s Answer

As an Executive Assistant by day and a yoga teacher by moonlight, I cleverly arrange my yoga sessions outside the typical 9-5 grind, usually during evenings and weekends. I consciously limit the number of yoga classes I conduct to avoid burnout and to always bring my authentic self to each session. While my full-time job takes precedence, I understand the importance of striking a balance between my passion and profession. This balance is what keeps me energized and fulfilled, allowing me to excel in both areas.
