Hello, Cecilia !
Although being a Flight Attendant is a wonderful career, you are right in wondering about it for your personal choices of a career. I would like to offer some things to consider and welcome your questions here.
You have good insight. As a flight attendant, you will be in a plane. If you're needed the next morning, the best you would be is in a hotel getting sleep for your flight the next morning. You are correct about not being able to choose when or where you would fly. It is a service job and you will have to interact with many people, even sick passengers sometimes. The next time you fly long distance, observe the flight staff and get an idea of what in-flight work is like. No matter how you feel you will have to go to greet and serve the passengers. This career can not be guaranteed to be a vacation, but you can plan your own exciting vacations on your own, where ever you'd like to go and when.
You will be evaluated on your appearance and be expected to be able to stand for long periods of time. You'd be pushing a cart, helping passengers with their baggage and do safety checks. You would also be doing on the ground work, too and writing reports and attending trainings. Liking to travel is not a reason to go into this career. It's basically a hospitality career and if you're a people person, love a variety of people, than maybe you would enjoy this field of work. If you are inspired by and love aeronautics, than you would love this career.
If you decide not to go into this field, you can consider other careers that may have a travel component and you'd get to see the land you travel to. Some of these careers are working on a cruise ship, a train conductor, being an English teacher in a foreign country, truck driver, travel nurse or an International Operations Specialist for a company that has offices in different countries. It would be fascinating to explore more about flight attendant work as well as these positions.
I hope that this was helpful and I wish you all the best in making your career decisions !
