What is the best way to prepare for SAT test?

I am taking the test next year and I am looking for some good ways to prepare for it. #SAT #testing #college-admissions #studying-tips #personal-development

Thank you comment icon Get a SAT Prep Book. From that make your own test. My biggest issue was I was taking to much time on the questions. So I suggest practicing timing yourself. Its a long test so the more your prepare the better. But its also much like standardize testing. Sylvia
Thank you comment icon Hi Chris! I agree with Sylvia. Also, if you like incorporating technology into your studying I would definitely recommend using Khan Academy. They have really great practice questions and help you improve on the areas you need the most work on. Remember when going through practice tests, actually take the time to learn what makes an answer right or wrong, even questions you got right by guessing. Watch videos on concepts that confuse you. Stay focused and make sure to dedicate time every week to study so you're not cramming 2 days before the SAT. I hope this helps and I wish you the best on the SAT! Mireia
Thank you comment icon Hi Chris - I agree with Sylvia and Mireia. They have pretty good suggestions. Adding to their advice, I would suggest you to prep for the SAT earlier. It is better to start at the beginning of sophomore year and keep on practicing. You can start doing some courses with Kaplan. They would not be able to lecture on all the lesson in the book they gave you, but the book itself is pretty explanatory:) Be careful, taking 4 practice tests in a month would not increase your score. You should examine carefully on the problems you did wrong. Especially for reading and writing, each type of problems because they have patterns in it. Khan Academy is a great resource. I am sure you would figure out your own strategy on how to increase your score. Joy
Thank you comment icon If you have taken the PSAT, then use khan academy. You’ll have to create an account with khan academy and link your college board account. This allows khan(which works directly with colllege board) to give you a personalized practice plan based on what you scored in each area of the psat. You can also set up a personalized study schedule. The way that it is set up is in practice sessions so to mimic the feeling of the SAT. This is just a brief description of what khan academy can do. Unfortunately I procrastinated so I didn’t get the full benefit but if I had used it months in advance like you are, then o would have scored better. It is such a useful and convenient tool. You will need to focus on stress and time management. In order to manage stress you have to manage your time wisely. You have to set a routine for yourself and stick to it for the most part. Once you get into the groove of a routine it will be much easier for you to manage your time and have enough time for everything you need to do (including relaxing). Make yourself to-do lists on a weekly basis, use Google calendar or a planner to keep track of events, deadlines, and due dates. In addition to setting a routine and sticking to it, plan out relaxing activities into your day. Or set aside a time, after everything is done for the day, that you can have "me" time. I have also personally found it essential to not only find time for myself but also make use of that time in a way that is best for me and my holistic wellness. I have found the HeadSpace app to be an essential tool in helping me relax and generally feel more relaxed throughout the day, Guided meditation, even if you have a busy schedule, will make you feel more at ease and relaxed throughout the day as a whole (not just when you have the time to relax and focus on that "me" time).

Set a routine.Use Google Calendar.Set aside Me TimeWrite weekly to-do lists and use a planner.Find a peaceful and restful activity that will help you feel relaxed.

Here is how to be successful in them:

 1. Stay on track - do assignments early, finish things a head of time, and be aware of all of your deadlines
 2. do all the the assignments and read all of the coursework required- do not cut corners
 3. use Google calendar to keep track of deadlines
 4. communicate with your professor early if something comes up
 5. do not be afraid to ask for an extension if you need one
 6. study, and study a lot! you don't have regular class sessions so you will need to put in more work at home.
 7. Do your best and genuinely try hard to give it your all.

The best way to score high on the test is to Google search an online program or book that will help you study. Once you find an online lesson plan for success you can use it as a road map for studying. Otherwise, find a book to help you study and spend 45 mins a night reading through it and studying. Depending on when you test is, the first thing you will want to do is organize a studying schedule for yourself. Target studying certain sections of the test and divide them up by the weeks/months you have until you have to take it.

Utilize the College Board resources. For every SAT, the College Board releases 5-8 practice tests on its website. Use those to practice. When you take the practice tests, simulate the testing environment to the best of your ability. That means time yourself for the exact timing used in the test, no online resources, and no using your calculator on the non-calculator section of the math. To learn content I would utilize Khan Academy since the resources are free and they have partnered with the College Board, so the practice questions could resemble the test questions. Also, Khan Academy can help track your progress if you sign up for a free account (you don't need to do this if you don't want to). Another great test prep option is a prep course. When I was preparing, I took a virtual course from Prep Expert (I'm not sponsored or anything). It's a smaller company but they help you out really well. Of course prep courses are expensive, but they're a great option if available. For the multiple choice math sections you can use the answer choices to figure out the question if you know the generic formulas. These tips helped me out and I scored pretty well, so I hope they work for you!
