What steps should I take when writing my college essays?

Is there anything specific I should or should’t do when writing my college essay? What are the most common mistakes others make and how can they be fixed? Should I show my teachers for help? #essay #college-essay

The biggest thing to remember about your college essay is that you are presenting WHO you are in that three-four paragraphs. Admissions already has a print out of your extracurriculars, GPA, and classes you've taken so don't waste this opportunity re-listing what they already know.

Choose a story, interaction, or incident that changed or represents you as a person:

A time where you had to overcome a challenge
The feeling of excitement you get when you're working on something you're passionate about
A time where you realized you were wrong and had to grow and change because of it

Colleges are not just looking for high scores to add to their schools, they are looking for PEOPLE to add to their community and they essay is great way to show what value you can bring to the campus.

Approach your english teacher. Also, you're going to need 1-2 reference letters from teachers. Keep that in mind.

Remember the purpose of the essay is to present a good 'picture' of yourself. It should be a genuine experience with real meaning. Sincerity is what they're looking for too as well as a well-written paper.
