What part of the essay do the UC Berkeley admissions officers most appreciate, and what are some crucial elements to include?

Are there any facets to specifically include in my essay or application for UC Berkeley? What are some unique facts (i.e. UC Berkeley historical emphasis) to include in my application? As a dedicated rising junior with a passion for political science, business, and law, I'm driven by a profound interest in understanding legal systems. I aspire to leverage this passion into an undergraduate degree in political science, ultimately leading to pursuing a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree. I believe in the power of change and am actively working to create change through activism. I am resourceful and determined, consistently demonstrating strong analytical capabilities and a robust work ethic. My organizational skills and ability to multitask efficiently enable me to excel in both academic and extracurricular endeavors. Collaboration is one of my strengths; I thrive in team environments and am committed to leading with positivity and integrity. Thank you in advance! I hope you have a wonderful day!

I Have not Received ANY Scholarships! 60+ applications!

I have applied to many merit and need-based scholarships. I am from a middle class family and have a 5.4 unweighted GPA, as well as a 1520 on my SAT. I am half Asian and half white. Both my parents are first-generation college students. We have low income and high assets, and I really want to reduce the financial burden of paying for college on my parents, especially since we aren't getting any grants from the government or university. I am attending Texas A&M University for Engineering this fall and am getting very frustrated, since I started applying since the beginning of the year. I filled my FAFSA correctly, and have already received loan options from A&M only. I have received two scholarship rejections and nothing else. I have spent countless hours on dozens of pages of essays, grammar checking, proofreading, rewriting, and I have not received anything. I admit I am not very good at writing in general, but I am really trying my best here! I've written about my success stories, my failures, my personal stances on controversial topics, my ethnic background, my interest in engineering, analysis of technological breakthroughs and applications of engineering, my dream to contribute to space exploration, environmental issues, and many other topics! I have applied to every local scholarship that I could find, and have also applied to nearly every scholarship I was fit for in three main scholarship-search websites. These are Scholarships.com , CollegeGreenlight.com , and ScholarshipOwl.com (Mostly CollegeGreenlight) I have mailed(physically), emailed, filled out Google Forms, done online applications, submitted multiple letters of recommendations from my teachers and counselor, sent my transcript, SAT scores, and just about anything else I was asked for every time. I have applied to scholarships related to my specific interest in Engineering, as well as more general groups, such as PSAs and quick-and -dirty 1 minute applications(only a couple). I also submitted scholarships relating to my passions as a competitive swimmer and high level musician. I have applied for scholarships ranging from $500 to $10,000. I even have a spreadsheet keeping track of each scholarship I have applied to. I always read the requirements and qualifications of each application, and made sure I live in the right area, have the right interests/experiences, and meet any other criteria. I have given all the above information about myself to these applications whenever possible. What am I doing wrong? To date, I have applied to over 60 scholarships since January. Thank you for taking your time to read this. #scholarship #college #financial-aid #help #engineering #rejections #essay

Tips for surviving bad classes and/or horrible teachers?

I'm open to answers from both fellow students and former students for this question! I'm currently taking a literature class, and I absolutely love it, but that's in regards to all the novels on our reading syllabus being outstanding reads and my own innate passion for literature. When it comes to the actual class, I almost dread going to school every morning since it's my first period (I'm a high school student). I find that my own desires and expectations for the class are incompatible with the reality of it. My teacher provides shallow commentary on the content of our novels, but then expects high-quality analysis and understanding from us students when she can't even provide that level of analysis herself. In fact, students often ask questions for clarification and she either beats around the bush or manages to avoid the question entirely by redirecting their attention to some other topic she brings up. She also expects everyone to improve in their writing and reading analysis skills, but provides no coursework or feedback for improvement, instead repeatedly assuring us that "our skills will improve during our time in the class" - something unlikely to happen if she just expects us to become better "naturally." She never returns or allows students to see past quizzes and tests, and on essays, she only writes vague, criticizing remarks of what we did wrong rather than offering advice on how to improve our writing for higher scores. Confronting her directly/privately for advice and further feedback results in more vague comments. There seems to be no way to coax constructive criticism or explanations of the "high-level analysis" she expects out of her, so the result is a class full of disillusioned and tired students who don't want to try anymore and don't want to improve. Not to mention her behavior makes her lack any sort of credibility so I really can't take anything she says seriously anymore. I'm doing relatively well in the class, but this is thanks to the foundation of literature-based skills I've acquired prior to entering this class, not the result of anything she's taught us. With that being said, are there any tips to trudge through a pointless and unfulfilling class? There are a number of problems here, but my primary concern is preventing a terrible teacher from damaging my love of literature, because this has happened in the past where I had an English teacher so awful that I started to hate literature despite it always being one of my greatest passions. On a personal level, it's also difficult not to let her interpretation of the novels we read ruin my reading experience and my feelings toward said books - for example, she makes a lot of misogynistic comments reinforcing gender roles and completely missing the point that I think the author was actually trying to make when we discuss feminist novels. I need tips on how to survive teachers like her so I can get through the rest of this year and also put them to use if I end up having professors like her in college. (Sorry for writing a novel for my own here!) #student #advice #student-advice #class #high-school-classes #classes #survival #surviving-high-school #tips #bad-classes #bad-teachers #literature #english-literature #english #english-literature #academic-english #writing #reading #books #book #novels #novel #essay #essays #help

What are your future goals in life?

My future goals in life are to complete my college egducation and get my Bachelors degree, get into graduate school and work my way to become a Clinical Psychologist. These are the biggest life long goals that I have set up to complete, and I am working immensely on trying to achieve them all. I have high hopes that I will get to that point in life where I am satisfied with what I’m doing and am going to be enjoying what I’m doing. In the mean time I also plan on having my own charity organization which will help those less fortunate in need, the homeless, funding low-income students on achieving their academic goals to get where they want, and to work worldwide on aiding the lower developed countries in providing them with they can’t receive such as food, clothing etc. I have an profound view on what I want my future to goals to look and I plan on fulfilling each one of them. #college #undergraduate #essay #goals #future #helping #askquestion #motivation #psychology #clinicalpsychology
