How do you evaluate success in your career?

I am a Highschool senior soon going to college and I as commit to a university I was wondering what you consider truly important when you look at your success.

Personally, I base career success on happiness and fulfillment.

1. Am I happy to do what I am doing? Do I genuinely enjoy my job?
2. Am I still passionate about my job on hard days? Do I genuinely feel that I am making a difference?

I had a high-salary position that was everything I wanted on paper, but in reality, I was not happy or fulfilled. So I left! Superficial factors can only get you so far when a job is detrimental to your mental health, moral compass, or passion.

I think determining how you measure success is very personal to each individual and largely depends on one's goals. One thing that I have found to be true is that definitions of success can change relatively quickly depending on where your priorities are at any given moment. For example, when I first started in my career a decade ago, I was very committed to moving up the corporate ladder as quickly as possible. Over time, while I am still very committed to my career, my priorities have changed as things have changed in my personal life and I am now happy moving up at a more steady pace. Remember that as you grow and change you may find your priorities and how you define success changes drastically.

Success is 95% mindset and 5% strategy. Just do what you are passionate about (this is whats truly important) and you will be successful Karina.
