Hello Sanchi,

Michelle shared some fantastic pointers about exploring courses in both commerce and PCM, as well as trying out online education to find what truly excites you. Picking a class stream or a career path is a big move, and it's crucial to find something that really lights your fire. Understand what motivates you and make sure your choice aligns with those motivations and isn't just a response to what others expect, unless it genuinely kindles your curiosity.

As you step into 11th grade, aim to build solid study habits, engage in extracurricular activities, and shine in your academics. Also, don't forget to make time for your friends to support each other as you navigate through high school. Consider high school as the initial step in shaping where you want to go next, be it college or a vocational school.

And remember, it's perfectly fine if you need to tweak the path you first picked out. Life has a knack for throwing us curveballs, and you might discover that a fresh direction fits you even better. Best of luck!

Hello Sanchi,

Deciding Between Commerce and PCM for Your Future Path

When it comes to choosing between Commerce and PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) as your preferred stream after high school, it's crucial to take into account your passions and career aspirations. Here are some key points to guide you in making a well-informed choice:

Commerce Stream:

If your interests lie in business, economics, finance, or entrepreneurship, the Commerce stream could be an excellent match for you.
Pursuing Commerce can lead to career paths in areas such as accounting, finance, marketing, human resources, business management, among others.
Opting for Commerce can pave the way for roles like Chartered Accountant (CA), Company Secretary (CS), Financial Analyst, Investment Banker, Marketing Manager, Human Resource Manager, and so on.
If you're aiming to work overseas in a business-related field, Commerce can lay a robust foundation for international opportunities in multinational corporations or global financial institutions.

PCM Stream:

Choosing PCM can lead to potential careers in engineering, technology, research, and various scientific domains.
With a PCM background, you can aim for professions such as Engineer (in diverse disciplines like Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science Engineering), Scientist, Researcher, Data Analyst, and more.
If your ambition is to work overseas in technical or scientific roles that demand a solid grounding in math and science, PCM could be an appropriate choice.

Factors to Consider for Decision-Making:

Interests: Pick the stream that resonates with your interests and strengths. Reflect on which subjects you find most engaging.
Career Goals: Contemplate the kind of profession you see yourself in the future and which stream would best facilitate those ambitions.
Skills: Evaluate your proficiency in subjects like Math and Science versus Business Studies to identify your strong points.
Future Opportunities: Investigate job market trends both locally and globally to comprehend which stream presents better prospects for your chosen career path.

In conclusion, the choice between Commerce and PCM should be driven by your personal inclinations and long-term career goals. It's vital to delve deeper into both streams through further research or by consulting teachers or career advisors.

Michelle’s Answer

Hello, Sanchi !

Thank you for inquiring about your next steps in your education !

Since your interests are in Commerce and in Physics, Chemistry and Math (PCM), I would advise that you take courses in all of those subjects in the next two years. You can also join in on any clubs or groups connected to those subjects at your school to confirm which you like best. You don't have to decide just yet, give it more time and explore your interests. You can even consider doing volunteer work in some of these fields to test which seems to be the fit for you.

You can also try online remote instruction of the courses this summer just to see what turns up as most interesting to you. That way when your next school year begins, you may have made a decision and know what to do. Since you know what you do want from your studies, take the time to explore how you can best put your interests into a specific career. Explore online through employment websites, informative videos and always ask specific questions. Do a search for the jobs in Commerce as well as search for information about PCM jobs and see what appeals to you based on the job descriptions. Sometimes a bit of first hand exploring will lead to some answers.

I wish you all the best and hope that this has been of some help !
