Melissa’s Answer

A career is not always immediately guaranteed or sometimes known. Many people are unsure of what they want to do which is okay. Even knowing what you want as a career you may have to work towards that goal by starting in lesser desired positions or jobs. I knew what I wanted to be when I was in high school but never knew how to get there. It took me almost 10 years after high school to begin that path. I suggest if you have an idea of what career you want, talk to someone in that field.

Melissa recommends the following next steps:

Narrow down what you desire as a career.
Find out what the mandatory minimum is required for that career.
Break down the requirements into smaller goals.
Talk to someone in the field to help you navigate the process.
Don’t be afraid to start off small.

Embarking on a career journey begins with a self-assessment or following the R.I.S.E. model. Reflect on your current situation, Investigate the path that resonates with your passion, Strategize ways to achieve your goal, and finally, Elevate yourself to the desired position. I acquired this valuable method from The Los Angeles Film School, and it has been instrumental in guiding my daily decision-making.

If you have a passion for driving and crave a flexible schedule, consider exploring rideshare or grocery delivery services like Instacart or Uber. Identify your strongest skills and leverage them to your advantage. If you're blessed with multiple talents, why not amalgamate them into a range of services you can offer? This will boost your marketability significantly.

Remember, every job has its challenges or occupational hazards. Be ready to brave the storm before stepping out into it. In conclusion, remember the world extends beyond your city or state, so don't hesitate to venture out there and carve your own path.

In the realm of door-to-door sales, the law of averages suggests that for every 100 people you approach, you can expect one positive response. This is just to remind you that perseverance is key. I wholeheartedly wish you the best on your journey. Stay safe and keep striving.

Patrick’s Answer

Savion, starting a career or finding a job calls for a well-planned approach that boosts your chances of success and satisfaction in the long run. This applies whether you're fresh out of school or shifting to a new job or field. There are several strategies to kick off your career effectively.

Firstly, take time to evaluate your skills, interests, and career goals. Think about your strengths, weaknesses, and areas of expertise to find career paths that match your interests and aspirations. You could do self-assessments, ask for advice from mentors or career counselors, and research industries and roles that interest you. This self-knowledge will help you make well-informed decisions about your career path.

Once you understand your career goals better, it's important to work on your professional growth and skill improvement. Find out what skills you're lacking that could be affecting your job prospects and take steps to improve them. This might mean getting more education, certifications, or specific training programs related to your chosen field or industry. Also, consider using online resources, workshops, and networking events to stay current on industry trends and best practices, which will make you more attractive to potential employers.

Networking is key to kickstarting your career, especially when you're job hunting. Connect with friends, family, alumni, former coworkers, and industry professionals to grow your professional network and find hidden job opportunities. Go to networking events, career fairs, and industry conferences to meet people with similar interests and potential employers. Building real relationships and keeping a strong professional network can often lead to job referrals, recommendations, and inside information that you might not find in regular job ads.

Besides networking, it's important to adjust your job search strategy to match your career goals and target industries. While job boards and online job portals are useful for finding job openings, don't limit yourself to these platforms. Look at other options like company websites, professional groups, recruitment agencies, and social media platforms like LinkedIn to find potential job opportunities that might not be widely advertised. Tailor your resume and cover letter for each job application, emphasizing relevant skills, experiences, and achievements that meet the job requirements and show you're a good fit for the role.

Lastly, Savion, you must stay determined, resilient, and flexible during your job search and career journey. You'll face rejection and setbacks, but it's important not to let them stop you from chasing your goals. Stay motivated by setting realistic goals, asking for feedback from mentors or peers, and keeping a positive attitude even when things get tough. Remember, every job interview, networking event, and career setback is a chance to grow and learn, which can help you succeed in starting and advancing your career.

Maria "Marylou"’s Answer

The path to a fulfilling career isn't always clear or immediate. It's perfectly normal to feel uncertain about your professional direction. Even if you have a clear career objective, you might need to start in positions that aren't your first choice to reach your goal eventually. If you have a career in mind, seeking advice from someone already in that field is beneficial.

Rebecca’s Answer

Thank you for your question. Many students have similar question. Firstly, you need to find out what careers you have interest.
Below are my suggestions :
1. Think about what you have interest, e.g. your hobbies, favourite subjects, etc. and identify related careers.
E.g. if you like music, would you like to be a musician, musical artist, singer, music producer, music composer, etc.
If you have interest in maths, would you like to be an accountant, engineer, banker, financial analyst, maths teacher, etc.
2. Find out more on these careers and determine what you have interest
3. Speak to someone who are working in these careers. Seek guidance from your mentor, school career counsellor, your parents, etc.
4. Shortlist 1-2 careers you would like to pursue
5. Explore the entry criteria of relevant subjects in colleges
Hope this helps! Good Luck!
May Almighty God bless you!
