Hi Meerab,

I think you can study biology and biochemistry or genetics in Pakistan? Or, since you like bones, how about medicine, dentistry or veterinary medicine?

Would studying abroad be an option if you don't like the biology options in Pakistan?

All the best on your path!

Dear Meerab,

Navigating Your Career Path Post-Matriculation in Pakistan

Upon the completion of your Matriculation, with a strong inclination towards biology, specifically anatomy and dentistry, it's vital to weigh various elements before setting your career path. Although the biology sector might have a narrower scope in Pakistan compared to other disciplines, there are still multiple avenues for those who are enthusiastic about this field.

Consider These Potential Paths:

Medical Profession: If you're drawn to biology, a medical career could be a fulfilling choice. As a doctor, you can specialize in areas like anatomy, physiology, and pathology. In Pakistan, there's a constant demand for healthcare professionals, offering ample opportunities for growth and specialization.

Biotechnology: This is another promising sector related to biology. Biotechnologists work on creating new technologies and products using biological systems and organisms, offering a wide range of career opportunities in research, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and environmental science.

Pharmacy: If you're intrigued by the medical side of biology but prefer a career centered more on medication and patient care, pharmacy could be a suitable choice. Pharmacists play a pivotal role in healthcare, dispensing medications, advising on their usage, and ensuring patient safety.

Dentistry: Given your interest in dentistry, a career as a dentist could be an ideal choice. Dentists focus on oral healthcare and treatment, including diagnosing dental conditions, performing procedures like fillings and extractions, and promoting good oral hygiene practices.

Research & Academia: If you're passionate about biology but not inclined towards clinical practice, a career in research or academia could be rewarding. Working as a researcher or educator allows you to contribute to scientific advancements, educate future generations, and explore various facets of biology.

Key Factors to Contemplate:

Personal Interest: It's vital to select a career path that resonates with your interests and passions for long-term contentment and success.

Job Market Trends: While some sectors might have more immediate job openings, it's crucial to consider long-term trends and potential growth areas in your chosen industry.

Skills Development: Assess your strengths and skills to identify which career path would allow you to utilize them effectively and continue to grow professionally.

Education & Training: Investigate the educational prerequisites for each potential career path to comprehend the time and resources needed to pursue your chosen field.

In conclusion, despite the varying scope of biology-related careers in Pakistan, there are still several feasible options for those passionate about this field. By thoughtfully considering your interests, skills, and future aspirations, you can make a well-informed decision on your career path post-Matriculation.

Hello, Meerab !

Since the scope of biology in your country is slim, why not continue with going to Dental School ? I have left a list of dental schools for you in the link below. Since you are interested in Dentistry, and have the human science background, it may be suitable for you.

My advice would be for you to continue with all the courses you enjoy such as anatomy, biology, physiology and consider chemistry, too. That will be an excellent foundation if you decide to go to Dental School. Another idea would be to go into Chiropractic. I have left a link for information about it below. You are right, you do have a wide choice in the human sciences field. It will be good to get a variety of suggestions but try to focus on what you're most interested in doing.

You may also consider a career being a Prosthetist and Orthotist. You will create devices that will help people function better and work with artificial body parts and false teeth for patients that have the need and help their life become more functional.

In order to ease the confusion, you will have to do some first hand reading and exploring about careers and at some point you will discover where you're meant to be. My advice is to continue with the human sciences and eventually you will know which career to aim for.

Best wishes to you in all you do !

Patrick’s Answer

Meerab, it's clear that you're at a crucial point in your life after matriculation, especially with your strong interest in biology. Your passion for anatomy and bones is impressive and it's natural to worry about the future of biology-related careers in Pakistan. But remember, it's important to look at all your options and think about various factors before deciding.

Firstly, even though there may be concerns about the scope of biology in Pakistan, it's important to remember that biology is a field with many career opportunities worldwide. Some places might have more chances in specific areas like medicine or biotechnology, but that doesn't mean Pakistan has none. For example, the healthcare sector always needs skilled professionals in different areas, including biology-related ones like medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, and biomedical research.

Your interest in anatomy and bones could lead to a rewarding career in medicine or dentistry. Both fields have great opportunities for those with the right qualifications and skills. Dentistry, which focuses on oral health and dental issues, could be a good fit for you. With more people understanding the importance of oral hygiene and needing dental care services, dentists have a lot of potential in Pakistan.

Your academic performance in biology, with 511 out of 555 marks, shows your ability and commitment to the subject. This success suggests that you could do well in biology-related studies and careers. If dentistry interests you, it might be a good idea to look into it more by researching schools that offer dentistry programs, understanding what you'll learn, and finding out about the licensing requirements and career opportunities in Pakistan.

But remember, it's also important to think about other things besides your interest and academic performance. Think about your strengths, what you prefer, and your long-term career goals. Consider things like job market demand, chances for career growth, work-life balance, and personal fulfillment. Also, get advice from career counselors, professionals in the field, and people who have followed similar paths.

In conclusion, Meerab, while it's understandable to worry about the scope of biology in Pakistan, there are still good career opportunities in the field, especially in healthcare-related professions like medicine and dentistry. Your love for biology, along with your academic achievements and interest in anatomy and bones, puts you in a good position to pursue a career in dentistry or a similar field. Take your time to look at your options, gather information, and make a decision that fits with your interests, goals, and future plans.
